Yes, we live in a different world than in the 1870’s. Imagine that.
Immigration was basically unrestricted to everyone who wasn’t Asian or from eastern or southern Europe until the 1960s.

Woah, woah, woah, you're blaming him? What about the goober that was in BR for the last 8 years?

What passports or visas were required at Ellis island?

How many trips did JBE make to the border to record videos for social media during his two terms?

Was he also sending the Louisiana National Guard to Texas? If not what does he have to do with this topic?

What other political issues are you wanting to time travel and impose standards from 70-200 years ago on?
Posted on 2/5/24 at 3:40 pm to Indefatigable
I guess we aren’t really imposing new standards.
It’s easy to walk into America, isn’t it? That’s the issue of the thread: It’s too easy to get in here without documentation we need Landry and Texas to save us.

A subsequent personal inquisition excluded 1 in 10-12 immigrants.
The questions asked at Ellis Island during the immigration process aimed to assess an individual's suitability for entry into the United States. "Unsuitables" were denied entry and sent back.
Basic Identification:
Name, age, sex, race, place of birth, and marital status. Hair color, eye color, height, and other physical characteristics.
Health and Fitness:
Questions about past illnesses, current health concerns, and visible disabilities.
Sometimes immigrants even had brief medical examinations.
Economic Stability:
Occupation, skills, and expected source of income in the US. Amount of money carried by the immigrant.
Immigration Intentions:
Destination within the US and planned duration of stay. Reason for immigrating and whether sponsored by someone already in the US.
Suitability and Potential Burdens:
Literacy in any language including English. Criminal history or past involvement in political activities deemed threatening. Presence of family members already in the US.
Of course it was a society with few safety nets. There was none of the taxpayer funded prepaid credit cards passed out

Now you’re just being dishonest.
The United States could VERY easily make it difficult to enter and stay in the country illegally. We are choosing not to as a matter of policy.
Existing law allows for the US to prevent every single illegal immigrant from entering the nation.

A few trips to the country club and buffet line is all.
Btw, have you ever told the truth in your life?

Wow, this thread went sideways quickly.
Can I want the border to be fixed without having to pay extra state taxes? I’d rather the governor concentrate on things like the Louisiana economy, coastal erosion, crime, etc. and less on national issues.
I know we pay for the national guard, but it cost a ton more to actually call them up and deploy them. The governor has already called for cuts because of the fiscal cliff. Are we okay with keeping taxes in place or increased taxes for inserting ourselves into things like this?
I’m okay with him going and saying he supports them and calling for a solution. Just not sure that solution needs to be on the backs of Louisiana taxpayers.
I pay more taxes to the federal government, so I care more about our international borders being protected.
No one is trying to invade through Louisiana, and if they did, the Biden admin wouldn't allow us to protect it.
Currently, 22,000 Hispanic children in Louisiana live with families where no parent has a full-time job. We, the taxpayers, are paying for every single one of them.
Im guessing you want that number to just increase?

If I want the governor to govern the state he was elected to govern, you’re saying I need to house immigrants? How does that even make sense?
His state is being inundated with illegal aliens. He is attempting to address the root cause of the issue.
You, however, just continue to deflect.
You want the state to provide for foreigners that are here illegally.
Again, if you are so eager to bring in foreigners, then you should house them, clothe them, feed them, and provide for their other needs too.
You haven’t done shite.
You are a hypocrite.

Is it currently easy to enter the US illegally or not? If it’s not, why is Landry grandstanding at the border? If it is, then how am I being dishonest?

Because Louisiana isn’t being inundated with undocumented immigrants.

I support this 100%. I was a Louisiana Guard member many moons ago. If they would take my tired old bones I would go help them right now.

Currently, our asinine system takes years for legal access.
But if you are a young lady willing to be repeatedly gangraped and possibly enslaved by Mexican cartels, you can get into the US in a matter of weeks ... or maybe those young ladies didn't quite understand the situation until they were already in it?
Is that REALLY an acceptable immigration system to you?
