Jeff Landry to push for new death penalty methods after 14-year pause in executions

Gov. Jeff Landry will push lawmakers next month to expand methods the state can use to carry out the death penalty, sources say, as Landry seeks to restart executions following more than a decade in which Louisiana’s death chamber sat unused.
Landry, a Republican, has long voiced support for resuming executions through means other than lethal injection drugs, which are in short supply nationwide. He will call on the Legislature to expand those methods in a special session slated to start in late February, according to four people familiar with Landry’s goals for the session.
If successful, the effort could usher in Louisiana’s first execution since 2010 — and the state’s first in decades using a methods other than lethal injection. It underscores a shift towards more conservative public safety policies Landry and other newly elected Republicans hope to enact across state government in the next few months.
Sources said it was not yet clear exactly which methods Landry will pursue making law during the special session, which is set to focus on public safety-related policies and will run from Feb. 19 to March 6. A spokesperson for Landry's office declined to comment.
But as state attorney general, a role he held for eight years, Landry pushed to expand available execution methods from lethal injection — the most common execution tool in the U.S. since its introduction in 1982 — to nitrogen gas, hangings, firing squads and electrocution.

Since 1973, at least 190 people have been exonerated from death row in the U.S.

Agreed!

I view this as political puffery. The congressional map giving up a seat and closed primaries that aren’t closed are 2 F’s out the starting gate.
Ain’t buying the BS…

What percentage of death row inmates does that represent nationwide?

You want violent murderers, sadists, and rapists safe from harm, but innocent babies en utero executed? Yeah, I’ll stick with my side rather than yours

Look up what Terry Smith did and defend him. St. Martin parish. Shouldn't be hard to find his story if he's still alive.

How many babies were exonerated that you wanted executed?

Once we get a new death penalty option, I’d suggest we start with Christopher Sepulvado. That vile piece of human debris should have been put down years ago for what he did.

I keep noticing you avoiding your blood lust for innocent babies but want to die on this hill to save convicted murderers.

? I don’t support or encourage abortion.

0. And as your statistics represent, these 190 have not been executed.
So I’ll ask again. What percentage of death row inmates does your statistic represent?

ITT all the "small government conservatives" co-signing state sanctioned murder.

It’s somewhere between 0 and the percentage of innocent babies youre comfortable allowing to be murdered.

I am deeply disturbed that I live in a society that places little to no value on women and children.
You are interrogating me looking for you a meaningless gotcha moment while doing absolutely nothing to support these “innocent babies” you’re pretending to care about. In fact, I’m pretty sure you complain about tax dollars supporting innocent babies that weren’t aborted.
