I have perpetually likened him to chemotherapy - literal poison for your cells...but prescribed as medicine nonetheless.

Nobody gives press conferences on chemotherapy saying “I’ve never seen a medicine try to kill someone like chemo does.”

He’s not a SJW. He is obviously owned.

I don't know any of that history. I just think it's unlikely that MadDog is some weak-kneed SJW.
Mattis attained all of his General Ranks including his last position under George W. Bush.

Oh, I doubt that. But, I do think that you'd be absolutely stunned at how scared as frick white people are of being called racists at this point. It's become irrational.

It's OK to admit it outloud - Trump is a deeply flawed narcissist.
I kinda see most people who would run for that position that way. I think you and I have discussed that I'm befuddled as to why anyone would WANT the job. You almost have to hate your family to do it.

However, I don't have to pretend he's a great guy or that he's flawless.
He was literally in LAST PLACE in my head during the primaries...……..right up until the cancellation of the Chicago rally during the primaries. It was at that point that my priorities changed DRASTICALLY

Funny how papers like The Atlantic hated Mattis until the second he was willing to say bad things about Trump.

This isn't true at all. This is just you being lazy.

but I think you’re honest enough to admit there’s a big difference between “Trump is wrong about Syria” and “Trump is a horrible human who divides us”. I could be wrong.
I think there is a fair argument for "Trump divides us". I personally don't think he cares at all about uniting the country. It might be a worthy goal and it might not be - but it certainly is not a goal of his.

Well he described Elizabeth Holmes(Theranos) as an outstanding and honest person with highest integrity. He also served on the Theranos board of directors I think....

As a judge of character he fricking sucks.

Now tell us what democrat YOU think wants to "unite" the country and then if you are so gullible to think that about any of them tell us what you think they mean by it.

HINT: They have bastardized that word too.

Exactly. By "unite" they mean "agree with what we say or else."

Good quote from Justified. If you run into an a-hole in the morning, you ran into an a-hole. If you run into assholes all day, you’re the a-hole.

There was a fair argument for “Obama divides us”. Did Mattis speak to that?

I don't care about democrats. Certainly virtually any other politician of any party would have been capable of making anodyne, trite, boilerplate "unity" pronouncements in the past 10 days. Like I said - can't get out of his own way. A scorpion is a scorpion, proverbially.

I always thought it was suspicious a man like him has no family or even a wife let alone a girlfriend at all.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's a pillow biter.

Did he? I know the board loved him well past the point they would have imagined Obamam to be dividing us.

Or, if you get called incompetent, childish and dangerous once, you ran into someone incompetent, childish and dangerous.

If you get called incompetent, childish and dangerous all the time, then you’re incompetent, dangerous and childish.

I’m asking. I don’t believe he did.

Obama “united” us to the point that a total outsider was elected president and both houses went to the GOP. Now maybe Mattis felt the need to publicly navel-gaze about that, or maybe this really isn’t about being divisive.

Did you forget all of the unity statements he made during covid?

No matter what he's raked over the coals. His opponents (which is damn near every institution in the country) will always attack him non stop.

Wait till another Dem is in office it will be empty unity speeches galore and this country will be going further left. Not a damn thing will change we are very divided and should stay that way.

Fault trump all you want but at least he pulled back the curtain on the cesspool that is DC and the dirty actors. It's up to people to recognize and vote accordingly. If this country is stupid to believe Democrats then so be it.

There's a difference between intentional division and things just happening. Do you really think Trump wants to bring people into the fold?

I am old enough to remember when 90% of this board was madly in love with “mad dog” and the “mooch”. The times they are a-changing.
