They should say they want him back IF he submits to a full and open investigation of his past behavior. There’s no reason to trust a man who said the things he said, especially one who just uses “i made some bad jokes a long time ago” defense instead of being genuinely sorry and open.
2008 wasn’t that long ago, anyway.
It’s hard to understand why all of these people would simply take his word for it that he’s changed and a good man. He’s the same man that said those things.

I’m not a lib. Jokes about it doesn’t make him a pedo any more than jokes about the holocaust makes one a Nazi. So to answer your question, to the best of our knowledge I’m not defending a pedo.
