The city has been neglecting infrastructure for years.

They also lost the user base from Rankin County because Rankin wanted assurances that things would be fixed and the city refused, so Rankin built their own water treatment infrastructure.

City of Jackson created this issue through actions and inactions of their own.
Someone was saying in another thread that Rankin County was paying over $3 million/yr to Jackson for water services, and wanted some input into how things were run, but Jafrica told them to frick off because they were “a customer” and had no say-so in how things were run. So Rankin Co. said frick you too, and built their own water treatment plant.

I’d like to see how many water bills in Jafrica are delinquent or haven’t been paid ever. If you can’t collect from your customers, you’ve got a problem.

Yeah about that billing…

Jafrica bought faulty meters from Siemens, settled for a fraction of what the damages actually were, and still aren’t billing people regularly because they can’t monitor how much water is used or shut people off if they don’t pay.

Much like Detroit and Flint not being able to bill people or shut them off and ending up shite Creek as a result.

But the roots of this crisis run much deeper, and are inextricably tied to white disinvestment from a majority-Black city. Jackson’s water system — which serves a population that is more than 80 percent Black — has been burdened with problems for many years, largely because white flight drained the city of resources.
The same city that within the past decade, elected a mayor who belonged to a black nationalist/separatist group that has a stated goal of establishing an indepedent black nation in the southeast US. Why are they complaining about white flight when white people moving out seems to be what to be what they wanted?

They wanted a black nation in the southeast. I don’t think they wanted it to be independent.

If you set national borders and checkpoints around Jafrica then give them foreign aid, it may work out as long as any foreign criminals trespassing into the US are dealt with appropriately.

Their wallets.

What these people fail to understand is that we have capitalist system. States compete with their sister states. Counties compete with counties. Cities compete against other cities.

People pick and choose where they want to live. They don’t have to stay where they are if they believe they will be better off if they relocate.

The way I look at it is that places like Jackson have failed to compete. They lost to other locales who had better schools, who had cleaner neighborhoods, or who had safer neighborhoods. They lost to places with lower taxes, better jobs, or places who had high achievers.

If Jackson wants better water they need to put infrastructure first and cut back on all the social programs. They need to protect their citizens, educate their children and provide what good families want.

But we know they won’t do that. They can’t compete.

I’m not sure who made the quote but it seems to be an odd, racist implication that a Black led, predominantly Black city can’t survive or prosper without input, guidance, support and financial investment from the much hated and oppressive White citizenry.
To a casual onlooker, it would seem that white people leaving would have been just what the area needed to give the Black citizens a majority population while freeing them from the oppression, bondage and “slave like” lifestyle previously imposed by aforementioned white folks.
Now they are plunged back into a SYSTEMIC situation of being oppressed, depressed, in a mess, can’t rest, living with less because of whiteness.

Problem is, and no one in the “legacy media” will admit it, is that the culture of “HNIC” is very strong within some communities.

If you take over, you dole out favors for people on the organization’s dime to make people beholden to you. If they’re beholden to you, your power base is generally established unless the Feds get involved.

What you mentioned AND most politicians with culture think they can just say something and it happens, almost like magic, with no real idea of how to make something work...

These are the same folks that think:

1. groceries are made at Wal-Mart
2. Power magically appears on the line
3. Water originates at the tap and is endless
4. Potholes fix themselves
5. Most people pay their bills

Etc.

Because most politicians have never been in private industry at any significant level, so they think they can go King of Siam and declare shite.

The Yul Brenner “Etc etc etc” routine.

Is this akin to an admission that the 80% is incapable of taking care of themselves, and competently running facilities ?

You can't change the Laws of Nature.
When Liberals run out of other folks money it collapses.
This is similar to the New Orleans Dams prior to Katrina.
