What good is it to have maternity leave if you starve to death?

Huffpo

What good is the paid leave if you can’t afford to feed yourself,

This budget plan is gonna be full of stories equating it to genocide, armageddon, the holocaust, end of times... ooooh, it's gonna be bad.

At what point do we expect adults to take responsibility for their own actions and deal with consequences?

The money has to come from somewhere, if that includes cutting food stamps, it is what it is

Nothing short of 2X the salary prior to going on leave will do......even then, I sure the Progressives will fnd a way to see it as genocidal especially if a Republican wanted to do it and also simultaneously cut the fat in a lot of bureaucratically heave programs

frick, you actually told me that it's Huffpo and and clicked anyway.

That said, once I was there, I read the garbage, for science.

The article is bullshite. We have Obamacare. Affordable healthcare is guaranteed for everyone -- isn't that right?

It sucks and is a terrible idea. I just hope congressional republicans kill it with the quickness. I know that I am hoping for a lot.

I think it sucks, too. It doesn't go nearly far enough. It doesn't get rid of any depts. I think a good start would be abolishing EPA, Dept of Educ and HHS.

I have an idea. If you can't afford to take off you can't afford a fricking kid so don't get knocked up. It's not my responsibility to take care of someone else for making an irresponsible choice!!! For fricks sake.

Exactly

They should have food, too. I doubt she can afford food for herself and now she has to pay for another family member? 20 jars of free baby food a week sounds right.

We should pay for her phone bill, too. They need to be able to contact someone if there's an emergency.

And a car as well. I don't understand how anyone can live in this day and age without transportation. How will she be able to drive to the pediatricians office without a car? A high-end car seat that has been proven to be safe will come with the car, obviously.

Oh and money to pay the babysitter. We can't expect the mother to take care of their baby 24/7 until they're 18. She's going to need to take some nights off. I think $200 a month ought to cover it.

Lets see, what else. Maybe some toys and books to help toddlers learn, etc.

I don't buy a house if I can't afford the mortgage, utilities, maintenance items, etc etc.....

My views on abortion are irrelevant to this discussion. We are talking about the government paying for maternity leave. I guess that is the liberal mindset.

So in your mind I should be for abortion because I believe that I shouldn't be responsible for subsidizing your shitty choices in life.

When does the handouts stop? Productive citizens that pay their own maternity leave, pay their own student debt, pay their own mortgage, etc etc can't foot the bill for their shite and other peoples as well. I have 4 kids and I have never had a handout from the government. When my wife became pregnant we planned out what amount of time she would take off and saved accordingly. The entitlement mentality of many in this country will be it's downfall. BTW I am pro choice.

Why do you morons always go here?

It's a strawman

Believing abortion is murder doesn't mean one should support the deluxe welfare package.

Trump's budget does have flaws, it doesn't go far enough in cutting social welfare programs. Tell them they can get off their lazy asses and work or they can starve to death.

Yeah, but it's gonna be fun to watch the stories, particularly in print media where they don't have time constraints like TV news.

The NYT:

Sophicia died yesterday at the age of 34. Her body was found in her humble 1 bedroom home in a poor section of Memphis, Tenn.
Sophicia saw what the Trump budget cuts were going to do. Cuts to her food stamps, cuts to her utility subsidies, cuts to her health care. She had to make choices.
Unfortunately, her choices led to her untimely death. Sophicia had a cat named Kleocatra. Here is a photo of her beloved cat:

Kleocatra was happy but underfed. There was little food in their house. To make sure Kleocatra survived the Draconian Trump cuts Sophicia stopped eating and used what few stamps she had to feed her cat.

Neighbors were concerned and pried open the door to her house. They found Sophicia's emaciated body on the couch next to her cat, who was guarding their last can of tuna fish. Friends were stunned:

"This just ain't right," said her cousin Harmonious. "She would have been a hard working woman iffin' there was any jobs out there. But in this Trump economy ain't nobody got no job. Nome sane."

Sources tell us that there are 1,000s of stories of premature deaths just like Sophicia's due to the horrendous destruction coming from the Trump budget cuts. Who knows when the slaughter will end.

You can have 52 weeks off for maternity leave in Venezuela but you can't buy a roll of toilet paper.
