Jackets flying back maybe? I was at an indoor range and got hit in the lip with I assume was a ricochet from an fmj. Haven't been back indoors since. That seems like a lot though and plus the ceiling. Weird.

It's Hand Grenades. Sometimes they use this facility as a Hand Grenade range.

The high score belongs to STVYWNDR.

There's luck and there's skill.

...and then there's that.

Probably the facility where these new IRS agents trained.

Definitely an LEO range.

A friend of mine was in a standoff with the local SWAT team years ago. They fired 52 rounds, 7 of them hit him. His trailer looked like the range in the pic.

Maybe that's the range where they all get together and practice panic firing.

Ceiling is definitely odd. Side walls and floor may be due to angles IF they also do “dynamic” shooting exercises in there where they move down range as they fire and are shooting more lateral.

The course of fire might (might!) be the answer, especially for the ceiling shots. Lots of police qualifying courses require shooting from the hip at close range, like 2 yards. This makes you shoot at an upward angle.

Also, there’s times when you have to shoot off-handed. New shooters get pretty wild shooting with their off-hand unsupported.

I'm at a loss for words.
I've used several indoor ranges in the past while in the Army and never saw such shite.
Range officer would boil your arse for doing such.
Even using the 50 on a tank shell I never saw anyone miss.

Perhaps this is one of those post office or IRS ranges ?
Maybe that's why they buy so much ammo because they waste most of it?

I am a CRSO at a public range. That is common to have holes above the firing line from "accidents" However, in this picture it seems to be super excessive. We have about twenty accident holes in our roof and just a few in the side partitions. I have hundreds of scary stories about people at the shooting range. I must say that this range must do a lot of automatic fire imho.....

Think I will just avoid all ranges in D.C. if by some chance I am in the area just to be safe

Nah, just a poor drunk schmuck that excelled at making bad decisions.
It's pretty funny except the part about them almost killing him.

He was drunk, mad at his gf and threatened to kill himself with a single shot 20ga. Then thought it would be funny to lock himself in the bedroom and fire a shot out the window.
She freaked, called her family who drove an hour to help her, they called the police and SWAT set up to see if he was alive and start negotiations if he was.
During that 2 hours he was oblivious to what was going on and kept drinking. He had NO idea she had called the police and SWAT was in the house till they fired up the bullhorn. (That's the funny part)
He came out to talk with the shotgun over his shoulder. As he was backing up to go back back in the bedroom he was lowering the gun to clear the doorway and one of them panicked and opened up on him, then they all did.

This was about 20 years ago, pre bodycam, but SWAT video taped all their ops.
His lawyer said he had a hell of a case against them until the video they took disappeared...

Last I heard he's in prison, probably started cooking meth later on.
