They don't want to give the President another win. Doesn't matter what Trump offers they are going to raise the bar. They are already wanting to defer on boarder security for later saying there isn't enough time to do comprehensive reform. Trump should stand firm tell them what he is willing to give and take or leave it.

It expires soon. They have to negotiate.

Dem immigration stance has become just let everyone in. That's not at all how most of America feels

In all honesty, Who Cares? Why are we so worried about these people?

A deal is on the table, one that I loathe because it creates 1.8m New Democratic voters and it may turn Texas blue in 12 years when they gain citizenship, in which case we are fricked.

I hope he Dems don’t come to the table and it pushes that inevitable amnesty deal even further down the line.

They'll get nothing if they don't give anything. Then, when the government is gridlocked, hopefully Trump and Republicans will throw it all on the Dems.

Trump's proposal announcement was the smartest thing he's done so far. Even though a lot of you don't like it, it's selling to the moderates and it's making the Democrats look awful that they won't help solve this problem at all.

They want to run the midterms on it in order to try and expand Hispanic voter turnout.

How pissed will the DREAMERS be? Trump is giving DNC exactly what they said they wanted (actually more).

To paraphrase Robert DeNiro in Copland, “They had their chance AND THEY BLEW IT!”

They blinked on DACA reform in two ways, through the short shutdown and through being unwilling to take what Trump conceded on giving the Dreamers a path to citizenship.

By blinking on the shutdown, they admitted this issue is a loser for them.

By throwing Trump’s concessions back in his face, they showed they won’t negotiate in good faith.

At this point, let DACA go away completely while we fix the border.

Nancy wants her throne back. She has to have this an issue to run on. The economy is/will kick their arse.

The problem now is they lose moral superiority (well within their narrative) if they don't work in good faith to get a deal done.

The GOP is more than happy to have immigration issues as a key point in November and they'll have a hammer to beat the Dems on over not getting a DACA fix through when Trump was on board.

They might want the issue, but it's going to be costly if they act to keep it an issue in November. The current economic trajectory is enough of a headwind to fight, it's foolish to add self inflicted difficulties.

Honestly this might be the best way to fight them. Solve the issue in a full, down the middle compromise. When they refuse they show their true colors and likely lose moderates in the process.

None of that happens if the Democrats oppose it (which their hand-sitting last night indicated that may well happen). In that case the GOP (and especially Trump and his Twitter) lay it all at their doorstep. Remember, the Democrat plan would have given 200k-300k a path to citizenship while what Trump called for last night would do so for 1.8 million.

If the Trump offers them 6x what they are wanting but they turn it down, there's no way that doesn't blow back on the Dems. Hell, just in the way he set it up last night if it were to pass he can (and you know he will) take major credit for doing it (thus making Dems look like the ugly sister).

But the deadline to extend protections for nearly 900,000 "dreamers" is fast approaching!!!

Who gives a frick? Do they not realize Trump has all the leverage here?

Don't want to negotiate in good faith? Load the bus then..
