There is validity to this criticism, but early on there was no reason to question the guidance from the epidemiologist experts.
Trump needs to own the later stage failure to clean up his response team but no one right or left knew how inept or horrible Fauci was until he proved it on the biggest stage possible in 2020.
The other takeaway from Covid was how the media has captured the left, but lost the right. The left still believes in the expert class of government and scientific stakeholders while the right is now deeply distrustful of both their competency and motives.
The result is that if CBS News puts an expert on TV saying something the left will believe it and the right will basically dismiss it out of hand at this point.
