We certainly played a huge role in WWII (as did the Russians), but to say that the US "saved" England and France in WWI is simply not reflected in the historical record. We helped push things over the edge, allowing for a quicker Allied victory, but the war had basically slogged into a stalemate by the point we entered. The United States didn't emerge into an elite fighting force until WWII.
