When your in the minority party it's a way to stop a majority from passing legislature that your are opposed to. It's certainly been used when the Democrats had the power.

I'm not saying to end the rule but is 60 too high to end debate or sure there be a time limit on debate?

The GOP could end this by ending the filibuster and pass as much shite as they can possibly do while in power.

Maybe it's time to end this process

If Republicans wouldn't allow Democrats in blue states to count votes for an Fing month after the election the GOP would have a supermajority in Congress and none of the 60 vote bullshite would matter.

Sadly, the GOP doesn't even really want control of Congress.

Jesus. The filibuster stays.

Do you remember when biden was in control of everything his first 2 years?

Can you imagine the frickery the democrats would've done?

Let me give you two.

Dc would be a state.

Puerto Rico would be a state.

That is 4 solid blue democrats added to the senate.

Then oh they will just increase the Supreme Court to 15. The would have a solid blue majority.

And then whenever there is a change of administration's there would be wild changes of laws. I mean we would be going crazy socialist with dems to free market with Republicans.

Huge deep state to smaller government. There would be literally massive swings in government.

The filibuster evens things out.

One day the democrats will have a majority in the Senate again. What do you think they will do with the Cloture rule?

However, keep in mind that they had a filibuster proof majority in 2009-2011 with Obama. They did not pass gun control. They did not pass increased income taxes. They did not pass medicare for all. They did not outlaw private education and a whole lot of other things they say they want to do.

Do you know why? It was because they couldn't get a single Republican vote for any of those things. They knew that if they passed all those things they say they want, they, the democrats, would be in sole ownership of the results. None of them had the stomach for that, or at least not enough to pass it.

The filibuster is there for a reason.
It stays.
Learn some history…or post less.

I agree with the concept of the filibuster, however, if keeping the government running is so absolutely vital, then the rule should be tweaked so that any bill to keep the government running can not be filibustered. The fact is, those cocksuckers on the hill like having shutdowns as a weapon.

Sadly, this is the sword of Damocles hanging over us -

There is no doubt they will do away with it at first opportunity - AND expand the SCOTUS to permanent liberal control.

I do not know how to avoid this future - we had it on our doorstep with a battering ram in hand === until DJT stepped up to the plate. There is no doubt in my mind that we'd already have dystopia if not for him.

I fear the future for my great-grandsons - I fear they will have to deal with the democrat/socialist monster in their lives.

yes - but I'd like to have it cycled back to its original intent - where you had to hold the floor by actually being there and speaking - not just 'announcing' that you are 'filibustering' from your bedroom and fancy restaurants.

This all day. Return it being such a pain in the arse to maintain that it's a weapon of extreme last resort. This "gentlemen's filibuster" is a disaster. If they have to work for it they'll quit doing it. That g9es for both parties

Then GOP needs to learn how to win fricking elections, change it and ram through your agenda. The Democrats will get rid of it as soon as they win Senate control. I’m not worried about what the Democrats will do in 2-4 years. That’s just a lame GOP excuse for not doing anything.
