No. It is a subsidy covered by long term policy holders.

Sure. If I have diabetes today I may have heart disease, renal failure, stroke, or blindness in the future. I can prevent many future complications with medical care and be covered if/when they occur.

What if your previous carrier for whatever reason had to drop you (too expensive, moved out of state, etc) and you had to find a new provider. Should they not cover you with your "pre-existing" condition?

Let’s just call it what it really has become...a medical fund.

It is something almost no different than a Ponzi Scheme where money goes in and comes out at the same time for those who need it.

Also, medical care is also a contract between you, the doctor, and insurance company to receive services at certain rates, think of it as a school fundraiser pizza card. Instead of paying full price for a pizza, you only have to x because of your card.

Let's just say what you are advocating. A system where no one can afford medical care. That's what you want, right Skippy? So why don't you just go to Calcutta where you can live your fantasy.

It didn't give an opinion either way on the existence of insurance. He was speaking of the correct wording.

And insurance that covers pre-existing conditions is, in fact, not insurance, but rather a medical subsidy or guarantee.

Ever notice most people could afford medical care when the government wasn't involved?

Once the government susidized it, it got very expensive.

Just like rent is doing now with section 8

Correct.

However, the issue is more complicated than that. If someone has had insurance and subsequently develops a chronic condition, then that person must be covered by insurance. If that person needs to change policies or companies, then they should cover him.

On the other hand, if someone goes without insurance and then develops a chronic condition while not covered, they should not be allowed to suddenly go "buy insurance" so that the insurance company can pay for all of their expensive procedures. This is NOT insurance. They have not been paying into their coverage for years. They are looking for a bailout for their irresponsible monetary decisions.

This is true with any government program. Wherever government is involved, prices go up. When the government started giving out grants for college like free candy, it incentivized colleges to raise tuition rates, which is why some students will go to their graves paying back loans.

We already live in a system where people can't afford medical care. That's why they have insurance.

People want to treat insurance like a coupon.

I have auto insurance, but I don't intentionally drive my vehicle in such a way that I expect to use it. Nor do I claim every single little ding and scratch, like most people do with medical insurance.

Medical costs in this country are ridiculous because people aren't seeing the full cost. So what do they care if they go to the Doctor 17 times a month, with a small co-payment.

No. and that's a key reason why it's so hard to debate about healthcare.

Are we talking about coverage for all or insurance for all?

Are we talking about a tax or talking about forcing everyone to have a private insurance product?

The list continues and continues...no one clarifies it...why? Because it keeps us at each others throats and allows the swamp to profit.

We're all idiots, myself included.

No. At least not with individual policies.

Try buying car insurance after an accident.

Is it a preexisting condition if your current provider has to cover a claim that originated prior because you swtitched jobs with no lapse in coverage?

How does your current insurance provider feel about that?

Except chronic conditions still often exist even after covered treatment, unlike your car getting repaired.

Your car cant get cancer.
