I’m 21 so this century has really just been my childhood and adolescence. I wasn’t fully aware of the adult world around me until the 2016 election where I got very involved in politics and the nature of world and how it actually works. (MAGA all the way) But for those who’ve lived and been “aware”, how does this rank in terms of events when compared to 9/11, the wars, and the 2008 recession? Will this be a landmark event for the rest of our lives, even beyond those before it?

ETA: I’d like to thank this board for my development in politics. My parents raised me the right way but it’s fair to say that y’all have taught me more about politics than anything and this is where I get my news. Started here as a junior in HS, and now I’m a junior in college.

I’m older at 37 but like you, I’ve learned more on here about the political landscape than I have anywhere else. I get what I can from various news mediums and family and friends. But from what I watch, read, and listen to, I later relay that here to get the crux of what I’m looking for. This site has a lot of damn fine Americans and MAGA-ites which gives me all the feels.

Most of my 2000 posts have been on the SEC Rant as I’m the only sane Sooner fan, or one of the few remaining who post here. But lately I’ve generated more interest to the political board because of the times we are in.

And like then post above, the greatest impactful event will always 9/11 as it has changed the landscape of how we do security whether it’s boarding a plane, going to a sporting event, going to work in a government office building etc, among other things. COVID has also brought about what I’ve said above and we still don’t know everything about it and what long term effects it will have as it is still being played out.

I’m just ready for Trump to claim victory yet again so the Liberal Leftist Losers can melt and create whatever anarchy they might have. What a bunch of pansies and bi+**es!

I’m 33.

I will NEVER forget being in freshman in high school and being in the library and the librarian being in a panic to get the TV turned on. I watched the second tower get hit. 9/11 still is hard to imagine. The US being hit that hard by an outside group on US soil. I’m NYC of all places.

I’ve never seen the country as United as it was then.

Don’t get me wrong. The thirty years from now looking back on COViD will for sure still be there in the memory banks. But 9/11 made the world stand still.

9/11 so far, however, the government overreach this year could surpass it if not corrected. This year isn't over yet.

TSA, Patriot Act, etc, negatively impact us but not to the same level as what has been forced upon us this year.

I think that depends on where you are. In America, maybe 9/11. Around the world? Probably this so far

Well if we ever could get the real truth about it, for the U.S. - our corrupt government would be my answer. Politicians, FBI, DOJ, irresponsible media (yes, they are part of our governmental problem since they have become cheerleaders for their chosen team) and a low information political populace of this country has been a bigger illness for this country than Covid-19 will ever be. There is no realistic cure for political illness.

9/11 was a solitary event that united the country for six months in a way that nothing in modern history had in my lifetime. Everything stopped for weeks. It was a surreal time that somehow brought out the best in us.

Covid by contrast has changed this country culturally in a way I do not recognize. Americans are never scared of anything, but we’re hiding out in our houses with these masks on like crazy people. We were not meant to live without parties, and offices and concerts and hugs and fun. Whereas 9/11 made us look at each other as countrymen- this shite has us looking at each other like threats. I keep saying I
can’t wait for us to get back to normal- and I hope to God we still can.

Thanks for supporting the President, BTW. We will never have another one like him. I loved Reagan growing up. But Trump is different Politics will not be as much fun without him ever again. His presidency has been transformative. We are really living through something. It’s been a wild ride and I’ve loved y’all every minute. I’m so happy for you that Trump got to be your first intro to politics.

9/11 was much more sudden while COVID seemed to creep up in intensity over a period of weeks. This country, largely due to social media, will never be as united again as it was in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.

COVID has had a much larger economic impact than 9/11, mostly due to Dem governors locking down their states to hurt Trump.

One thing you can count on is politicians taking an event like 9/11 or COVID and using it to take power away from the people. Patriot Act, etc. Usually the better sounding the name of the bill, the worse it actually is.

Yes.

Covid and the lockdowns/closings/etc are the most impactful event of this century thus far and will have long ranging impact on our lives. How long and how bad, is as yet undetermined.

Probably 9-11 still.

Covid is big though.

I think we have the most corrupt political leaders in the world.

9/11 was devastating, but the 2008 financial crises was worse and affected way more people. I feel bad for those that loss family members due to illness but this Covid-19 crap will be forgotten in 12 months.

Another takeaway is that if there actually was a virus with 4-5% fatality rate (if all cases were known), society would disintegrate. We are barely functioning as it is with a virus with a fatality rate that will end up being much lower than 1%.

9/11 bro. I remember everything about that day. The tv was on at school in homeroom and when the second plane hit the towers the teachers were told to send us all home.

I would say the football team that LSU had last season is far more important.

9-11-01 If you're looking at the United States only

Covid If you're looking at the world.

By the way, I'm more and more convinced that covered was released by the Chinese to bring about a world economic slowdown and partial collapse because they were getting their arse handed to him by Trump and more and more countries were lining up behind the United States instead of them. Obviously they don't care about killing their own people, which I would guess has been in the millions...
