re: IRGC has fired on US destroyers, we retaliated with “love tap” strikes

What this has told me is ... Those probably firing on the us, are not the same as those we are negotiating with.
Our 'love tap' response to take out their launch sites after downing all incoming missiles and drones, is to prevent these rogue elements from 'muddying' the agreement.

The only thing retarded would be to keep on doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. We had a deal with these people at one time and they lied and cheated. What good is an agreement with these people when we know what the outcome will be. They will wait Trump out and then start violating the agreement first chance they get even if it’s just to test the waters and see how far a new American administration will let them go and see what they can get away with. I have absolutely no hope or faith in any Democrat to keep them to any agreement they sign. Other than Rubio I can’t think of any R’s that would keep them to any agreement they make with Trump. What was the point of all this in the first place if all we wanted was a deal? We reset the nuclear clock that’s good. We would be totally depending on this regime to be honest and hand over all the nuclear dust as Trump calls it. How do we know they didn’t remove some of it and our intel agencies missed it. The only way we could ever be sure is to get a government running Iran that is friendly to the U.S. and would hand every ounce of that stuff over to us if found. It’s just time to be done with these people and remove the threat so we can start paying attention to the biggest threat we face geopolitically which is China.

You only need to clear a couple of lanes for ships to safely sail through, not the entire strait.
Guys with rifles and small machine guns on speedboats are a very definite threat to commercial ships.

Now go explain that to one of these insurance companies that would be on the hook for paying out billions of dollars if a ship is lost. Just the suggestion of a ship hitting a mine is enough to scare those people into telling these ship owners they will not be covered if they keep operating. The ship owners park the vessels and all of a sudden you have a log jam of idle ships.

Just re install the shah as the leader of Iran. Help him create a stronger military than what is left of the previous regime And turn a blind eye to whatever the hell happends to the previous regime after that.

Well yeah, I get that there is a threat. However, ships have been sneaking out by turning of their beacon and waiting for dark. Neither of those tactics will help if you hit a mine.
I’m not saying there’s zero risk of mines. The threat of missile and drones and speedboats are much higher.

Sounds like a dream administration. In just about any combination, we need to make this happen

I understand what you are saying and it makes sense. You or I though is not on the hook to pay out billions of dollars though if a ship hits a mine the Navy missed or strays a little to far outside of the zone that has been cleared and hits one.
I guess they look at it like a drone or missile attack could be survived a lot easier than a ship hitting a mine. I don’t know but they certainly broadcast out that policies would not be honored if they kept operating in a war zone. I can’t say I blame them though. I would turn as green as Kermit the frog if I was on the hook to pay out billions of dollars when it comes to anything lol.
Just having those ships set there though makes them wide open to attack from drones and the boats you are talking if Iran took a notion.

If it wasn’t for the hundreds of thousands of actual innocents that hate the Regime, I'd be cool with "love tapping" Tehran with our "Rods from God".
But since that's not the case, sweet little kinetic kisses is fine, to just completely disable and embarrass them.

I think for a number of reasons under the current circumstances, insurers are treating the mine threat differently than the other things mentioned. As in, a more risky threat, if you will.
Posted on 5/7/26 at 9:57 pm to davyjones
Yeah. If a ship hits a mine it’s almost certainly going to the bottom and become a total loss. A drone or a missile could do it to I’m sure if hit in the right spot but those type of attacks could be survived a lot easier also. It’s the only reason I can think of anyway.

I think also that the U.S. military can and has and will continue to stress to the insurers that we do have the tried and true capabilities to defend against identified incoming threats, like drones and militarized pleasure craft, as I view it. This is not the case with mines - no “preemptive” defense measures for those. Thus perhaps the insurers cut them a lil discount on the drone and motorboat threats.

Trump has made the US seem so weak. So much more so than any leader for the last 100 years. This board ain’t ready for that discussion though…

Sure we’re ready for that discussion.
You’re extraordinarily wrong.

Discussion over.

Well from what I understand Iran can drop mines very easily. It doesn’t take some specialized type of ship. I heard one of the military talking heads on tv say once that almost any type of ship can drop a mine that it was that easy. If it really is that easy and they have mines that survived the war to this point then we could clear them all day and they could just put them right back. We should have taken out those pleasure craft boats when we got the bigger ships to be honest. We should have at least been giving them the coke boat treatment anytime they show up on the water. Those boats can still be dangerous. They can pack them with explosives if nothing else and use them in a USS Cole type attack. They are a threat that needs to go away for sure.

One thing you have to consider though is that it’s not like the entirety of the body of water is the center of concern. Shipping lanes are the primary point of concern, and with advanced technology I have a feeling we’re able to significantly avert the introduction of “new” mines in the most important areas and avenues for shipping, specifically. Other waters, sure, that’s a definite “proceed at your own risk” as it appears now.
ETA…and from what I understand the reason that particular “fleet” wasn’t disposed of as was the bulk (or all” of the “official” navy, apparently the small boat fleet was concealed and protected “underground.” Literally underground.

The Navy mainly uses technology to go after mines today. They use a lidar device to mainly find them. They have a helicopter mounted device and I think they also have something like a ROV that has lidar also. I’m sure it’s the best tech money can buy but I don’t know how eager I would be to jump on a ship and ride through the area this stuff just cleared lol.
