There’s no evidence so far they can hurt us but tempting fate isn’t exactly something that makes admirals happy when there isn’t a tangible strategic reward.

They’re not worried about their health…
They’re concerned about exposing $30 billion dollars worth of US aircraft and aircraft carrier plus the lives of their crew to enemy fire in a situation in which they cannot immediately effect a decisive blow against the enemy.
The enemy only has to get lucky once, we have to defeat every wave of incoming or our entire naval doctrine gets thrown into question.

INHO this post (and thinking) is short-sighted, though.
First, you are comparing our way of life with Iran. Their leadership doesn't care about the general population, at all. Hyper-Inflation, don't care. Basic needs, don't care. If American kills 90% of the population, they still don't care. What do they care about? Well, the first month of the war should tell you, when they execute (their own admission) people using Starlink (internet) when the general population had it cut off.
We elect. Even when the left attempt to steal elections, it is somewhat fair. That doesn't happen in Iran.
