Closing the Straits again doesn’t sound like something a country wanting to abide by the MOU would do.

I was reporting what they had said as of last night. It isn't surprising to see them oscillate back and forth like this. Because again, they are in a position where they feel like they have to appease the hardliners within their own ranks.

This really isn't difficult. We bombed their country into oblivion. They aren't making any money. They're running out of food and water. Their leadership is dying. In steps Trump and says, "hey, we will give you access to shitloads of money if you'll play nice. If not we will continue kicking your arse." It's the silver or lead proposition. Elements within the regime feel like they must negotiate, while the zealots within the regime see conceding anything to the enemy is literal treason.

Meanwhile, you tell them that Israel will play nice and leave Lebanon. This becomes the pivot point that binds them because you also know that Israel will not do this. What you end up with is an Iranian regime that is turning against itself (between the "level headed rational" types and the religious zealots) and also an excuse to tell Israel to go frick itself at the same time.

Yeah, they may close the strait again, but this isn't the sort of flex the Iranians nor the Sun Tzu's on this website think it is. Global oil routes have already adjusted as best they can to offset the strait being shut down. If they keep pulling this shite they may end up finding themselves losing money in the future even after this is settled as other nations find new routes to get their oil. We can suffer higher gas prices longer than Iran can suffer not being able to feed its country or provide drinking water.

Iran keeps having Hezbollah fire on Israel, then claims Israel is the problem, and half this board eats it up.
Both Israel and Iran will claim/blame the other. They hate each other, but two things can be true about this situation.

Netanyahu, Ben-Gvir and Smotrich furiously oppose the current MoU and have stated they are not bound by any agreement the U.S. makes with Iran. Their political bloc makes up the majority of the Knesset and they are the hardliners. The minority parties are more moderate, and they also strongly oppose it but blame Netanyahu. Though the basic chain of command of the IDF, defense minister Katz (Likud guy) and chief of staff Zamar (non Likud) do not like each other, they both oppose the MoU. They ALL are pissed the U.S. and the President.

Iran is more diverse in their opinion. Hardliners among the IRGC, parliament, and clerics strongly oppose it and have even issued death threats to some of the moderates who are in favor of the MoU..like the president, voting council, pragmatic wing of the IRGC, negotiators, and moderate parliament members (These actually seem to love their families). Iran is not united and a powder-keg mess. The hardliners of the IRGC though, restructured Hezbollah and installed their members in prominent leadership roles. They basically run Hezbollah and it is a fantasy that they feel any loyalty to the rest of the government or bound to any agreement.

So you see, this is a shitshow of the highest order and either can be purposely fricking this up no matter what the headlines say. Pick a side if you must, but there isn’t a good choice. Also, cancel your air B&B reservations in Tehran, Beirut, & TelAviv.

No we didn’t. We haven’t been to war full tilt since 1945.

No but if one of our biolabs in Ukraine could come up with a version of the HIV that is transmisable from goats to humans the problem would solve itself.

Ironically, we might end up with a nuclear armed Iran AND a Trump loss

That’s your hope.
