I don’t think the Sunnis are in a position to fight one. They just don’t have the numbers.
80% of the world's Muslims are Sunni. I have a feeling, just as in the 1st Iraqi Civil War, that outside support would be forthcoming.

you would think they would invest some of those stacks of coins on carrier maintenance. Got to cheaper than towing your navy from port to port.
The Kuznetsov design was flawed for the start. And it was badly maintained for much of its life.
Making matters worse, the Russians stopped building large surface warships in the 90s, and spent what little money they had on their submarines instead.
It was a prudent choice. But they lost the skills they need to build and maintain ships like that.
They should abandon it. But I assume pride prevents them.

Sunnis are just a third of the total population in Iraq though.

How much is Iran paying you per post?

Are you seriously treating the Middle East like 3 fighting siblings in a 3-way "This is our fighting shirt" until they make up?

And the Navy didn’t have a lot of faith that that would work. But it was their best option.
Pretty sure yamato said that the only chance they had was completely destroying the entire aircraft carrier fleet, which was why he was extremely disappointed in the attack on Pearl Harbor because the fleet was out of the harbor.
ETA: every other old type conservative navy person was not excited about the move, but for other reasons (if I remember correctly)

IIRC, he was pissed they didn’t destroy the oil tanks and support infrastructure on shore. Pearl Harbor would have been out of commission supporting the pacific fleet in the war much much longer.

I bet them Iranian pilots are treading lightly

They can hardly keep them in the air. Those are F14A's from the Shah's days in power and they don't have any spare parts.
Unless they did some midnight auto parts runs from the Boneyard when there were some F14's there.

I thought that was Nimitz that was super excited that didnt happen?
I always get my Pearl Harbor history confused,so excuse me if I am remembering wrong. It's been quite a long time since I've stayed at a Holiday inn.
I joke

The Shia have poured in from the border pretty much unchecked
You are acting like there weren't Iraqi Shia before. Southern Iraqi Shia and Persian Shia have had a long relationship, dating back to the Safavid conversion. But Iraq has always had a sizable Shia population. The notion that the Shia migrated recently is nonsensical.

"US Kills Qassem Soleimani, Iranian Quds Commander and PMF Chief al-Muhandis": first time I ever hear of these termites. What's the big deal? You start shite - you get shite. What is so complicated about that?

One has to wonder if, along with the pallets of cash, that spare parts weren't given also (maybe not at the same time, but you get the meaning)
