Probably not generally appropriate for a minor child, but any competent adult who wishes to clock-out should always have that option. No reason that they should not be able to obtain assistance and to do so in a painless manner and in a comfortable environment.

I read this story and thought about posting it. Tough read. Society failed the child. This kid didn't have the life experience of dealing with tragedies and it looks like their people gave up on a little girl that didn't have the maturity to work through this with the proper help. It may have take 10 years, but a decade of growing up with the right support could have given this kid a meaningful life.

Perhaps this is the end result of thinking we should be able to absolutely create a world where nobody EVER has to. The whole thing is troubling in many regards.

They DO have that option. It’s called suicide. Google “pain free suicide” and knock yourself out. It doesn’t REQUIRE state participation . Especially at age 17 for a mental health issue. That’s just frickin EVIL.

I'm here, but only for physical, terminal impairments with correspondingly unbearable pain.
But, suicidal ideation (and attempts) are clear signs of a treatable mental illness. Assisting those folks in successfully killing themselves is the opposite of medical treatment (or compassion).
