Why hasn't there been much progress here?

Ask a Dem; they've obstructed EVERYTHING Trump has wanted to do.

Well when you steal more like Solyndra and waste more on Obama phones, you gotta cut back somewhere!

That’s what happens when you have half the country on the take.
Also this is not just a fed gov problem, public entities all over the country have pushed off infrastructure spending.

That’s because people want to watch America crumble so they can have an extra $50 a month in their pockets. Lafayette just refused to renew the property tax that funds the operation of the libraries because some scammer ran a campaign that the funds for building maintenance should be used for operating costs. And so it crumbles.
Republicans love to destroy things. They refuse to fund replacement because of how much things deteriorated when they refused to fund maintenance.

From the chart, fed spending has been lower than the current levels several times in the past 50 years.
State spending is at an all time low.
But guess who'll be blamed.

I'll give you all the infrastructure spending you want... For a 1:1 reduction in entitlements.
Deal?
Deal?

Public libraries are going the way of phone pagers - obsolete.

That's funny you think those dollars went to infrastructure during Obama's years.

Looks like the dip to current levels started in 2012, well before trump took office.
This is a systemic issue, not one related specifically to trump

Pretty amazing we still have any at this point. Would say they have been obsolete for some time.

Because it makes too much sense.

Our grandfathers with smaller governments and less taxes were able to pave the streets, create public transportation, install sewage and clean water systems, electrify, install drainage, build skyscrapers, and pipe in natural gas.
But we with higher taxes, bigger government, and better technology can’t even maintain them.
This should make one think.

Well it should be, considering we really shouldn't be building that many new roads, sewers, etc like we did in the 50s and 60s
Maintaining existing structures is a lot cheaper than building new roads

But Trump wants to pass a $1T infrastructure bill and the Dems are opposing it.

Well, first, it's a percentage of GDP as opposed to real dollars. There's some context (though certainly not for the huge dip around '12 or '13.)
Second, does this coincide with the Recession? Was it brought down but then no one wanted to pull the trigger to go back up?
Or is it the cronyism? Is it expenditure blocking by Republicans over Obama? By Democrats over Trump?
Is it a single reason, or a myriad of them? Is it a bi-partisan frickery of the US' citizens?

Yeah sure, lower SS payments by 10% and raise infastructure spending by that amount. That’s a good deal. Instead of pouring money into older people, pour it into infastructure that will support the future economy of this country.

Deal?
Or defense spending. Deal?

I don’t think it is the dems opposing Trump on infastructure. Also the bill he wants to pass is only $200B in federal funds
