Flat tax.
Everyone should pay the same rate. We are supposed to be equal....
And while we are at it lets limit welfare to 24 months for a lifetime. It can be a safety net but it shouldnt be a lifestyle.
Get a job you lazy bastard.

Yep, everyone should pay the same percentage.

You're not this dumb. Nobody is.

What's the point you're trying to make with Transfer Payments Chart?
The idea that 1,409 people have more political clout than 70,000,000 other voters is silly.

How much does the top 1% own of national income and national wealth?
We could answer your question if we had that info.

Are you seriously suggesting that the Kock brothers and George Soros have had no more political influence the last two decades than me?

And you called me "dumb".
No. I said that you weren't dumb enough to actually believe what you're arguing. I stand by that.

If the "rich" are controlling government, they are controlling it give an asspile of money to "the poor"
First, I'm hardly here arguing that the poor in the country have it bad.
But I am arguing that you're deluded in your (apparent) beliefs about the rich, what they pay, what they receive, and how politics and our economy work.
So back to the chart - are you saying that chart shows the transfer of wealth from the 1% to those below them on the food chain?

Income tax just needs to be simplified. Trump's reforms helped but there is still work to do.
That depends on which area of income tax you are talking about. Corporate income tax wasn't simplified; certainly not for multinationals.
I don't think it was any more streamlined for passthroughs either.
Actually, save for bumping the std deduction, I'm not really sure it got much simpler for individuals.

'm putting a line of $350k or more a year in gross income. That's basically your top 2% income earners.
I have not read any of this thread so I am sure this has been asked.
How much does a married couple making $75,000 pay? How much does a married couple making $350,000 in earned income pay? Which is more?

They do.
But, you're right because the idiots who spew that don't know they do.
(Or they do and they're propagandists.)

How much of national income does the 1% pay?
How much of total taxes are paid by the 1%?
I'm assuming you know given your comment, and am genuinely interested in that information.

38.5%
The next 9% pay 31.6%.
So the top 10% pay 70% of the income taxes.

Soros doens't even get a vote. He does influence others. But so did George Floyd, and the Derek Chauvin. I don't think either one are billionaires.
Like I said 1,409 people pay more than then bottom 70,000,000. If you think its equal... I don't know what to tell you. You suck at math.
quote:Oh. Cool. I didn't realize we had a mind reader among us. Can you tell me other things I believe?
No. I said that you weren't dumb enough to actually believe what you're arguing. I stand by that.
quote:Good lord. I'll try this like you're five. The government has instituted massive transfer of revenue FROM "the rich" TO "the poor". If "the rich" have more political leverage than "the poor" why would they do that?
So back to the chart - are you saying that chart shows the transfer of wealth from the 1% to those below them on the food chain?
All the while the are voting themselves a greater share of taxes paid?
As I said... if they are controlling government to their "advantage" they are doing it wrong.
Even more simply... why do you think politicians campaing on "middle class tax cuts" if votes don't count?

Yes I’m am ok with a graduated income tax. However people who are on the lower end of the high earned spectrum get lumped in with the Uber wealthy who can afford to have some accountant offshore their assets.
I think we really need to break up the different wealthy tax brackets because a guy who earns 250k a year isn’t the same as someone who earns a million a year etc.
I also believe poor people shouldn’t be able to constantly get handouts for shitting out one more kid from a different father. I have a complicated view of the US tax code tbh, some of it would be popular here and some of it wouldn’t be.

What percentage of total taxes does the 1% pay? almost 40 % of income tax

My question is why is any of that your business?

No one should pay taxes on their income.

The top 1% of income tax earners pay between 35 and 40 percent of the nation's income taxes.
