In year 2019, what's the point of having NATO anymore

Do these leaders need this private club to have each others back if China tries to frick with one of us?
Seems like a big waste of money for US taxpayers, when all of our allies rely on us anyways

frick NATO, We shouldn't be obligated to spend a dime, the fact that we have their back if something goes down should be enough.
Allow us to build a base of operations somewhere on your land if needed and they should spend an appropriate amount on their military so we don't have to carry the whole fricken load if shite hits the fan.

I'm not sure but I think NATO is a US/European/Turkey thing trying to thwart a Soviet/now Russian threat. I don't think it guaranties anything if China saber rattles.

Europe was constantly at war (or incidents or rumors of war) from the 1870s to 1945. NATO has minimized that and Europe, although not without incidents, is basically at peace primarily because of the NATO alliance.
The Rooskies want to destroy NATO so they can weaken democratic institutions in the West. Hopefully Congress and responsible Trumpkins won't let Trump screw this up as part of his stumbling mimickry of Russian talking points.
