Pothole disables law enforcement’s car during police chase

quote:

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A police pursuit of a stolen vehicle resulted in a police car being disabled in Jackson Sunday evening. According to the press secretary of the Department of Public Safety Bailey Martin, Capitol Police were chasing a stolen vehicle when both cars struck a pothole at the intersection of Superior and Wood Street, disabling the police vehicle. The subject driving the stolen car was able to escape despite being struck by the police car. Martin says the subject has been identified.

Growing up in Nola my dad said “don’t drive in potholes full of water bc you don’t know how deep they are”

It didn’t really sink in until after Katrina and how bad the roads got.

3rd world country shite.

Fortification St as I remember was like it had been used as target practice for artillery.

I hit a pothole crossing Claiborne from an intersection (10 mph max) and it ripped the oil pan from my vehicle.

NOLA peeps can’t mock Jackson on this one.

It is 3rd world and its a very good strategy.

Corrupt leaders tax their people, thief all the money then scream to the UStates they need money for water, sewage, road maintenance. Enter your tax dollars to replace the money they have stolen via the UN, USAID, IDB, World Bank, IMF. They then hire their brother in law to build the water plant, which he wins with a no bid contract for 200 million. He then subcontracts to a real company to build it for 100 million, they cant complete due to lack of funding.

Rinse and repeat. This time showing poor people, hopefully minorities, a few screams of racism about the US for not helping....and the second tranche of money flows and the brother in law hires his nephew...who is the leaders son.

Did I describe a 3rd world or every major city and the states of cali and NY with build back better. As you laugh at them....they laugh all the way to the bank.

There’s a stretch of I20W just on the outer edge of W Jackson that will literally make you airborne like the Dukes of Hazzard before wrecking your car if you don’t slow down and carefully watch for the dips and holes.

Riverside drive is absolutely the worst street in the entire world. Going anything over 15 miles per hour is guaranteed to put your car in the shop

Haven't been that stretch in a while but it has been bad for years and fixed (attempted) many times. There is something about that soil that is very unstable and they have dug it up, filled in back and the problem always comes back. It's like the Yazoo clay right there goes to the center of the earth. They need to elevate it and do pilings down to bedrock and be done with it.

Not new IMHO.

They have had lots of massive pothole issues in addition to Public Works not bothering to put manhole covers back in place after finishing work.

People put barrels out with signs reading “fix this shite” in the potholes.

I purchased a 4x4 for my wife, not because we enjoy mud riding but because we lived in New Orleans and had to deal with the roads.

Name checks out

Says it all for such a relatively high traffic and short road in the middle of the city to be such a disaster

I do miss Keifer's

Every time I've gone back it's been more and more depressing. Jackson was never Monaco but compared to today it might as well have been

Every time I drive home to Louisiana I take the bypass around Memphis and Jackson. No reason to catch a stray bullet.

Now you’ve got me missing and hankering for the souvlaki and hummus with warm pita mmm

Yea it’s depressing how the city gets worse every time I see it. They’re completely failing at the most basic things: protect the population, maintain roads, have clean water.
