My uncle sold his residential construction company and retired early because he refused to hire illegals and other contractors could always underbid him.
The downward pressure on wages hurts the poorest Americans, particularly minorities, the worst.
If there were RNs, lawyers, accountants and IT professionals streaming across the Rio Grande we'd all be screaming about it. We don't need an endless supply of unskilled labor.

Immigration doesn't hurt me directly. Of course it hurts all of us through strain on our economy and welfare system, but I am in no danger of losing my job to an illegal alien.
I have nothing to fear DIRECTLY from an illegal alien. However, I can recognize the strain an uneducated horde of people can place on an economy, from a wages standpoint and a welfare benefits standpoint.
You stats can all be correct, although I doubt they are, and this is still a major problem.
A welfare state and open borders are not compatible. You have to pick one.
