I have maintained for well over a year now that my fondest hope was that Trump would adopt the 'elder statesman' role and campaign for someone who shared his view of the world political situation and America's fundamental goodness.
He could go down in history as a savior of the American Experiment = overcoming for a decade the greatest political assassination attempts ever launched against a citizen of the USA. And to have merely survived that assault is historic - but to do it on the world stage while conducting the business of the world's greatest power, without a smidgen of personal gain, and being attacked by every element of the conspiracy to destroy America is utterly astounding.
given that history, I can tolerate a lot of mean tweets and personal shortcomings.
Mr. Trump - please do it.
