Why yes, that's what the colloquialism I typed means.

I don't know his whole story. I do believe there was a time when those in our intelligence agencies and foreign service were not what would be considered "deep state" today. What I think is the "deep state" is the administrative state that operates to further its control over everything without regard for the public interest.

I don't know if it works this way, but I hope his Dad is aware of this great tribute. Greatness expresses itself in different ways, and I felt the same way about my Mother as Tucker obviously feels about his Dad.

I have been thinking that about my dad and my friends' dads who have been dying the past few years. They all have these amazing stories and the kids have all just led relatively boring suburban lives.

Are lives like this possible to live in these modern times?

Hell yes. Not only are lives like this possible, they are currently being lived by thousands of people. Look at the lives Donald Trump and Elon Musk are living. But notice that Mr. Carlson did not sit around waiting for life to happen to him; he put himself out there and did radical things. If that guy was just starting out today he would live another adventurous life.

Yeah, probably a fair assessment.

Everyones obituary is always fluffed up. Even the biggest a-hole sounds like a Saint in their obituary.

One guy I knew who died said in his obit that he was surrounded by his loving children who he adored. I know for sure his children hated his guts. And he was a-hole.

Sounds like his father was a spook.

Not a spook, the kind of old school diplomat-slash-spy you see in Bond movies. Ambassador, advisor, raconteur, "Your winnings, sir" type of man. A well-lived life, Rest In Peace.

A tough breed. Knocked down kept getting up. His story kind of reminds me of Louis L’Amour another self educated man that achieved greatness. Both writers but more than that. Men that achieved the American dream through hard work even in hard times.

Condolences to Tucker and family on their loss.

I learned something today. I always thought Margaret Carlson was Tucker’s mother.

Yes he was . Tucker also applied to the CIA but was rejected , which is kind of surprising since the CIA heavily recruits Jesuits , Orphans , and members of the same family .
