Nope.
The Constitution has already given me that right.

Sidenote: A lunatic can pass a test.
A sane man can fail one.
That’s an awfully slippery slope.

So it would give less guns to crazy people... yeah that sounds terrible.

This is stupidity.

First, Psychiatrist appointments are almost impossible to get in most areas as it is. Why would anyone want to clog them up any more—so they “examine” healthy people. It just means fewer in need get appointments.

Second A psychATRIST != a psychIC. They cannot foretell the future. Literally...there is no medical school that teaches how to predict the future actions of humans.

Fewer guns, not less guns.

For the record, nearly one-half of the country experiences some kind of mental illness during their lifetimes.

I'd be hestitant to do so - simply because my records would be publicly accessbible (for certain folks, anyway), and I don't really relish the idea that someone, somewhere, knows just exactly what is in my possession.

If I intended to use that gun for criminal purposes, though, I really wouldn't give a frick about compliance. I'd simply find someone willing to sell me a firearm.

It would quickly expand to anyone who’s taken any type of medication for anxiety or depression, then studies will be done citing those ailments run in families and can be hard to diagnose. Even if someone passes all the psych tests, then a child in the house could be afflicted and have easy access to a gun.

It’s one of the more common “common sense gun control” measures advocated.

Sure. The results would show:
"Mr. Zach, you are the most sane human being on record. Congratulations."
Me: "Thanks."

Do we really want doctors deciding who does and doesn’t get guns?

Nope. Read the second amendment.

As soon as they perform the same eval for every other right I will consider it. Especially voting.

It would be better if an individual who has issues is involuntary committed into a mental hospital. That is where they can get the help they need. And while there they will not be able to hurt themselves or anyone else.

If someone had put the Parkland shooter away all those kids would still be alive. Law enforcement was called about him dozens of time and nothing happened.

But the average person should not have to under go those tests unless they have shown something of concern. But even that could be a slippery slope. There are parts of this country where some people think you are crazy if you want to own an AR15...

Sorry for my cumbersome attempt to post a gif. Longtime lurker, infrequent poster. It's a giphy link and, I hope, worth the view.

It depends who the “we” is. BamaAtl would be all about doctors deciding who can buy guns. You know because all doctors are gods gift to mankind.
