I get what you're saying.. but that's a new big expenditure.

Drug screens cost anywhere from $25-$45.

There are about 52,000,000 people on govt assistance today in the US according to Google.

Let's use the low cost for a drug screen at $20. Say the govt gets a nice low contract for it.

That's about $1.04B in total cost to screen everyone on govt assistance.

That's a lot of money.

Really? The cost would not be much. Private business already has to pay that cost.

Besides, savings seen by many dropping off the roles would more than offset.

I also believe the dole should be temporary. As of now it is set up to be generational. Make looking for gainful employment part of the deal.

Who's paying that $1B new expense?

It would only take about 700k people getting knocked off the government tit to pay for the drug tests. You would get WAAAAYYYYY more than 700k off I can assure you.

You forgot the part about the savings from people being cut off the government tit. You and her are wrong again. It would save billions.

If they are poor, where would they be getting money for drugs?

Ill pay for a couple extra shares. If you have a 100,000,000 taxpayers in the US we can take a 10 buck flyer on welfare reform.

$10 - $30 per 5 panel urine test.

Then you have to employee people to administer the tests and report the results.

847,100 people receive SNAP benefits monthly in Louisiana alone.

even if we used to low estimate of $10 per test, that's an added expense of $8,471,000, not including the expense of staff to administer, read and report the tests.

That's a lot of money to make smug people feel good momentarily.

If you cant prove a viable disability / need then you should get nothing! Laying around on your back spitting out babies isn't a viable reason. Trying to run a drug screen program under the gooberment would be a huge fricking fiasco. Just cut them the frick off.

Now Senator Rick Scott when he was governor of Florida tried this…using the testing company he was part owner of.

Something like 108 out of 4000 tested positive: Tampa news

Beside that, the failures can claim addiction which requires expensive treatment and add that to the list of costs out of your pocket.

ETA: Don’t forget the jurisdictional issues between State and Federal administration systems. If you think the judicial system has been busy fighting Trump that’s just a subtle hint of what would be coming.

5 plus years since my stroke
Doctors determined it was COVID
The virus, not the shot The virus the government let out of a Chinese lab
After examination, I was declared by the Govt to be on full disability
After a year on disability, I was automatically enrolled in Obamacare,
And they take $220 out of my disability benefits every month.
But I cannot access health care because I was coded as requesting benefits for dependents
I did not fill out any application; this was all automatically done by the bureaucrats, who were still working from home at the time.
I don't have dependents. They fricked it up and won't fix it no matter how many calls, how many hours on the phone

The system is broken, things need to change because I guarantee you I'm not the only one that's getting fricked.
I'm a US citizen, and I've worked paid taxes since I was 15, so I've paid into the system for over 40 years.
The programs should help legitimately disabled people and kids at risk
I always felt this as a Christian and as a decent human being long before I had the stroke
I am also a Straight white conservative male, pure evil in your eyes you probably think I deserve it

If you truly believe that at-risk people deserve assistance, You should also insist that the government do an efficient job and cut back on waste, and stop the abuse of the system, because the system cannot sustain itself If it goes uncorrected
and then people who deserve the help and need the help don't get the help

But I'm sure that you and your ilk believe that that's only right because straight white Christian men have abused women and children and colored disadvantage for eons

I don’t mind taxpayer money going towards this. Might even save us money by weeding out the druggies. No pun intended.

I agree. I just have to imagine there's another avenue for advocacy that hasn't been explored yet. Did you contact your state rep (local state rep since states administer their own SNAP benefits)?

You're hellbent on convincing me that I hate people. I do not.

I wasn't being insensitive about your stroke yesterday, FYI. I was in a car accident in college and had a brain injury. My frontal lobe was affected and I had difficulty regulating my emotions for a while.

Before anyone makes any jokes, that happened in 2005 and I remained a staunch Republican for 5 or so years after that.

My insurance requires me to take quarterly blood test for the only prescription I have, get over it.

Every month before you get a check. If failed, no check.
