I spent the first forty years of my life without much exposure to minorities, other than the occasional Asian in my classes, and would have denied any racist beliefs
Access, specifically to the black community, via social media (as well as moving to "the south") has made me more racist. Although it is slightly more nuanced. I'm racist towards a certain subset of a specific race in North America. By this I mean that I am afraid of them and go out of my way to avoid them whenever possible.
If ever I was sitting on the fence about it, having to suffer through the 2025 LSU graduation ceremony for my son shoved me over the edge.
That said, I have zero power so my thoughts have no impact to anyone outside of myself.

If a person uses the term with me in a discussion it always goes like this: Me: 'What is a racist?' The reply is usually:' Whites believe they are superior to blacks.'

That's why stereotypes have always existed and they are based on truth. Like ... Jews are cheap, Indians like to bargain, Irish drink a lot. I grew up hearng jokes about Cajuns and I was never offended.
