Income taxes are immoral and patently unfair. Our system that carved out people from paying is even more unfair

Consumption taxation is the fairest of all taxes and it suits the US consumption culture.

What a winner. Why hasnt he taken the reigns as speaker?

Because no one in Congress other than him wants to cut spending, or balance the budget, or pay off debt, or avoid an economic collapse.

Between 1992 and 2009, former Georgia Congressman John Linder was the only person in Congress saying "we have to let the market determine who can afford a house. Giving away free money will lead to an economic collapse".

Why can’t we take taxes and put them into a SWF? Seems the only way to save SSI

That’s why he always votes against his party or abstains. I’ve never seen bills by him to cut or him get in front of a budget. Keep sucking him off though

I have a sneaking suspicion that if Trump said "everyone, even people who only earn only $1000 per year, should have to pay some measure of income tax", they you would agree with him and violently defend his position. I also have a sneaking suspicion that if he said "I would like to have sex with your bird dog", that you would hold her down.

There are many flavors of accounting and there is a zero percent change that income taxes are eliminated.

There is $36 trillion debt and $1 trillion plus deficit. The tariff revenues will never make up for the revenue from income taxes.

I thought MAGA were debt and deficit hawks? lmao.

Yet another brain-dead policy from the unserious MAGA folks.

How is a family living in poverty supposed to pay taxes?

You have a skewed understanding of fair.

Consumption taxes are the most regressive of all taxes and shift the tax burden to the lower income tiers and trap them in their station in life as you are taking more of their income in taxes as they consume more.

Just rip the mask off and say you hate poor people. Just be honest about it and own it.

If Trump had cooperation on tariffs, DOGE, and setting the Income Tax this Nation could reign a bunch of debt in quickly.

I disagree. I’m a big fan of DOGE, but the upper limit of what we can expect from DOGE is probably about half a trillion per year. Remember that some of the DOGE savings thus far has been asset sales, which is a one year deal. Tariffs can never bring in much money except in their first year or two, because as soon as possible new supply chains will avoid them. So maybe you can get $100 billion per year from tariffs after the first couple of years.

So maybe all of that gets you within striking distance of growing out of the annual deficit. That still leaves the debt intact.

Unless everyone’s first $200k isn’t taxed, that would be fine

That's how taxes work now. Your first 11.6k is taxed at 10%, 11.6k-47.15k is taxed at 12%, 47.15k -100.525k is taxed at 22%, etc. Being in a higher tax bracket doesn't mean your entire income is taxed at the highest rate.
My entire adult life I've heard people claim that they got a raise at work and now take home less because they're now in a higher tax bracket and it simply isn't true.

I don’t hate poor people. I just realize that there will always be poor people and rigging a tax system to benefit them doesn’t make them wealthy.

I would much rather celebrate and encourage wealth and production by giving tax incentive.

And fwiw- under no condition is it “Fair” for an anyone to take what you’ve earned even if it’s cloaked as a government.

While it sounds great in principal, I think this is a bad move.

EVERYONE needs to have skin in the game. Even those on the bottom, should somehow pay taxes and not be able to pass on ALL of the tax burden to someone else. Because, if they can, then they will increase spending and just vote in other people paying taxes for which they have no obligation.

Undercutting tax revenue while running massive deficits to own da libs?

If we're serious about balancing the budget, we will have to cut programs and raise taxes. Any argument beside that w/r/t deficits and public debt is fairy tale fantasies that hang with the best of the left's.

A tax return does not mean you get all your taxes back, it means the government over taxed you relative to credits you were able to claim at the end of the tax year. I can guarantee you when I was starting my career, I noticed the taxes being deducted acutely and what I got back in the first few months of the following year wasn't making me whole again.

Yet you advocate for the most regressive form of taxation - consumption taxes - which distortionally affect poor folks.

I just realize that there will always be poor people and rigging a tax system to benefit them doesn’t make them wealthy.

The poor can barely afford to survive on their meager incomes...how does slapping a larger consumption tax on them help to "make them wealthy"?

I would much rather celebrate and encourage wealth and production by giving tax incentive.

So tax cuts for the wealthy and ownership class who already own most of the wealth in America? Your statement is a vague, meaningless platitude.

Taxes are the price to pay for living in an organized society. Most folks don't want to live in your lolbertarian fantasy world.
