There is no quick way out of the debt problem. Anything drastic would undermine either our security from foreign threats or completely unmoor our domestic society and probably set the stage for some sort of tyrant to seize on the popular anger. It is a multigenerational program to chew it down to be quite honest.

That is by and large part, the interest on the debt. We could balance the budget other than interest on the debt and it will increase nearly 1 trillion a year.

This is why Social Security and Medicare have to be open for cuts, but that's a different thread.

Well Trump said they weren’t trying to crash the market.

In one of Bessent’s interviews he said you can’t predict the market. So no, the plan wasn’t to crash the market, they have no control over that.

Actually he called it an organic animal.

Obama hasnt been in office for 8 years, and Trump had his shot already to fix this.

Trump made it worse. And you voted for him again, and insanely believe it will somehow be different this time.

Slackster is also in the top 5 melts

Roger is clearly #1. None of you have ever been right about anything

But this time will be different. Trust you

nowhere near a fan of Obama or his policies but the dude was 3 administrations ago, we can't keep bringing this dude up when there have been 2 or 3 regimes since dictating policy

The premise of the "refi" goal isn't really directly related to the stock market. It's the economy as a whole

Bessent said specifically that the stock crash will cause ppl to retreat to saftey
Wouldnt shock me if Schwarzman is telling ppl to sell and put money into safety so they can drive rates down

Then buy low

In that video he’s even saying you don’t know what will happen next week.

But he does mention oil prices and interest rates down that will help people much more than the stock market.

I don’t buy into the purposely trying to crash the economy thing in the first place.

What other parts of the economy are crashing?

Well that's the premise of the thread, to discuss this theory and tests posters' limits regarding the theory.

Well one way to not have us in a pickle would be to do this.

But Harris wasn’t going to do this either. I don’t see a scenario where someone runs on this and wins.

So we need to raise money, tariffs is one way, and refinance the debt lower to make it manageable.

In that video Bessent said real wages grew more than your .7% price increase in Chinese goods from the tariffs.

The argument here is the tariffs are much less of an increase on you than raising taxes on everyone here.

Plus the dems would have raised your taxes, not done anything about the debt, and you be hit with an even bigger tax of inflation.
