I moved to TX in 2012. IMO, Texas Republicans do not understand what it takes to maintain, much less advance conservatism in a state. They basically fiddled while Texas burned.

Case study - Fort Bend Co. In 2012 Romney had 53% and Obama 46%. In 2024, Harris received 49% to Trump's 48%. It was one of 12 TX counties that went for Harris.

So how did Ft. Bend Co. become (for now light) blue? There has been an incredible influx of foreigners. Only anecdotal, but if I took (my now put down) dog for a walk and encountered 10 others out walking, maybe 2 of those 10 could speak Engrish. Beyond that, KISD has been infiltrated with liberalism and when those kids eventually graduate, their sympathies lie with Democrats. Public school classrooms are liberalism farms.

Finally, when I move to FLA in '87, it was a purple state but due to the influx of Northerners from liberal states, all indications would suggest it was headed to be a deep blue state. But now, it is perhaps carrying the flag for conservatives. I really cannot overstate how impressive the job DeSantis has done. Ron won in 2018 (49.59% to Gillum's 49.16%). He won in 22 with almost 60%.

I study demographics and I cant see any way Texas does not become permanently blue at some point. Maybe the GOP can pull a miracle and save 2026.

I’ll put this quote on the pile right next to the one that says the GOP will never win the presidency again after Obama Obama was elected.

Trend change all the time do I like the immigration of folks the way it’s been done in Texas no but that doesn’t mean it’ll be all over.

The GOP sold its soul to recruit businesses from California and to recruit more high income immigrants. The result is Texas looks more like California.

My 16 year old step daughter attends KISD and her and her friends were jokingly calling while men colonialist the other day. Where would they even learn that term for white men? School

So yes, my experience fits yours. I go on evening walks in the park or just to HEB and I always notice the sheer amount of people speaking other languages. I’ve only been here 5 years so I can’t really compare it to old times but it’s very obviously the reality today and a bit concerning.

Indians invaded my work and my nearby grocery store feels like an international airport. Not what I expected when I moved here:

"Republicans" had their chance to make Texas the King of the south.

I was born in 64, kid of the 70's & 80's. Sad to see. Even game wardens are dumber and more powerfull. Firemen are good at blocking roads, when minutes count, cops are hours away and the power grid, well, lets just say, everyone should have a back up power system and not for just when the weather gets bad.

Still better than Kalifornia.

I'm not fan of Abbott, but how does this lie at his feet? He can't overrule Fed Immigration law and can't tell certain groups not to move to Texas.

As a former proggy I can tell you that invading texas with illegals to turn it blue has been the plan from the left for decades. We initially thought the hispanics would turn it, but those suckers are hard workers and worst of all, they are freaking christians. Need some other religions in there to put the nail in.

The Indians are just one group of many that are overwhelming the state.

The current overall % of non-Hispanic Whites in Texas is now estimated to be 37%.

That's all due to Hispanics, not Indians

Texas has been tied to Hispanics/Latinos prior to white people moving there

I have posted about demographics in texas a number of times but it never gets much traction. Texas is going to turn blue soon.

Abbott is a pussy in a lot of ways, and I suppose he could have created more friction to what is happening, but he can’t really control the things that drive large scale demographics. Hell, the biden admin blocked texas from protecting its own border, then used bulldozers to remove razor wire to let illegals in.

Trump could deport 2million people, the next blue cycle will add back 10. The next red cycle will be prevented from meaningful deportation measures by radical communist judges. Over decades, it nets out to the trends we are seeing today.

When Texas flips, it doesn’t take long to remove election security measures like has been done elsewhere, and then you’re fricked for good. The US is fricked. There’s nowhere else to go.

The problem is how you develop economically without that resulting in a shift left.

Economic development means more urbanity and education immigrating to the state. The combination of urbanity and education means shifts to the left.

Educated people lean left

Urban people lean WAY left

There’s the solution. Destroy education first. Promote intolerant racism. Then we won’t have to worry about any people who are educated and who think. We can have a white Luddite homeland because no one else will want to live there.

That has been the right wing playbook for decades.

That's not really a relevant response, but, regardless, that decline tracks with the increase in population taking the ACT.

In the mid-90s, only the top students who were going to college took the ACT

Now basically everyone does.

Also, that trend is clearly influenced by the Covid-era educational policies, which nobody should dispute caused major damage to students

But then there wouldn't be economic development, which is what my post was discussing...
