Roe isn't getting overturned, but that MS law may stand.

I am not a Constitutional expert ,but this seems like it is a States issue so that means Roe vs Wade will not be overturned. I think what you will have in the most leftist States in the Union this will give the cover for partial birth abortions without reason. As in more Conservative States you will have very restrictive measures when it comes to abortion. Also what this may do is tell the Legislative Branch of the Federal Government to do their job. For too long this is an issue no one in Congress is willing to touch. Sure you get politicans who say that they are for or against and will fight to preserve your rights blah blah blah, now lets get them on record. You will never see a bunch of Rinos or Dems in Red States scurry so much.

It's my understanding that this case won't overturn Roe altogether, but it would punt it back to the states to decide.

However, in the long term sense, this could be the first major domino to fall if it's overturned in future rulings.

Hopefully some day it will be.

Killing unborn babies because it inconveniences the lives of irresponsible people is right up there with buying and selling people as property.

The Lord willing one day these people will open their eyes and realize what a horrible practice this too is.

Roe will not be overturned, and it wouldnt surprise me to see SCOTUS strike down MS law. I know the arguemnets seemed to favor MS but done underestimate John Roberts.

All this is doing is giving fire to the dems to push for more voter turnout in 2022. This was a bad time to bring this case.

I am strongly against abortion but dont ever see it being overturned.

Major props to the Magnolia State.

It's hard for us laymen to follow legal processes. If it is shown that life begins at conception (which it does biologically, philosophically, and theologically), then abortion would be illegal nationwide.

That would be a most pleasant surprise.

Cavanaugh, not Roberts, is more likely to cast the deciding vote.

Roberts is a lost cause.

What aspect of this could overturn Roe? Can they simply rule on the 15 weeks issue? I haven't followed closely at all.

Maybe I’m naive but I don’t see how this really does much for turnout. Sure it fires up their very extreme base but are those folks in that great of numbers. Hell they have done polls on abortion and a vast majority feel late term is wrong for starters.

This doesn’t overturn Roe.
It just lets states set the latest date of baby butchery to 15 weeks.

The overturn Roe BS is the left crying over every baby they can’t kill.

But since I rejoice for every baby saved, here’s to Mississippi !

Roe only covers first trimester. The Mississippi law abides by Roe.

I don't get all the hubbub about this overturning Roe

You got it. In fact, I will get down on my knees and thank God for Mississippi. Then thank God Roe v Wade has been overturned. Beautiful state. Fine people.

It's not an end to abortion. The decision to allow abortion would shift back to the states and not be governed by SC.

What's the actual process of overturning a prior SCOTUS case? Is it an extra step that they have to do or can a case just "bump" it? Just trying to understand the procedure that says that is officially completely overturned.

I ask as I know TX has a law that bans it the moment it's overturned, so what would need to be done by SCOTUS for that to be legally kicked off?

Also, I hear CA has a similar set-up but totally diabolical where they will pay for travel/stay/procedure/etc for any one nationally that can't have an abortion in their own state. So yeah taxpayer money for this....smfh.
