while i am not directly knowledgeable about this specific contract, the majority of the municipal contracts that I bid have clauses that state that the low bidder actually has to pay the difference between their (low) bid and the price being paid to the next lowest contractor. If this is an option, and the city is not activating this clause, that should tell you that this is political.
i do deal with the CNO directly in other ways and I can tell you that they NEVER live by the contracts that the city signs. they are supposed to pay in 30 days. it is typical to receive payment in 90-100 days.
on face value, just looking at the "emergency" clause paperwork....Metro should win a suit very easily.

People need to watch the video before commenting. Metro already won their suit against the city. However, they were bankrupt before the suit settled. The suit settled for $4 million but in the bankruptcy court.
Latoya literally bankrupted this company because they donated to her political opponent. By doing so, Latoya cost the citizens of New Orleans tens of millions of dollars.

Lee Zurik did a story a while back about the former sleazy Mayor of Kenner. Sydney Torres was implicated in that story. Right now, the whole trash collection contracts for Kenner is under federal investigation, and Sydney Torres is at the heart of it.
Zurik has a separate page on the WVUE website. It has all of his investigative stories. The amount of work he’s done and scum he’s exposed is truly amazing.
Here is the main story on the City of Kenner and IV Waste bid rigging.
ETA - Just to clarify....I don't know Lee Zurik and I've never met Lee Zurik. However, New Orleans being the small city that it is, I do have friends that know Lee Zurik on a personal basis.

Our political system is set up with two opposing machines. Each machine has up-and-coming stars. They do favors and say the right thing, and get higher offices every few years. As long as they don't make the wrong favor (or get caught more likely), at which point the wind goes out of the baloon and the next guy/gal steps up.
Keisha Lance Bottoms for example. A total idiot that did some serious damage to Atlanta. She said and did all the right stuff, and despite being incompetent in Atlanta, is now Karine Jean Pierre's sidekick at the White House.
But Al Franken got caught grabbing boobies on camera, and Rod Blagojevic got caught selling political office. They are now greeting folks at Walmart and have no political future.
Yall act like Latoya Cantrell is one step from jail, and her downfall will fix New Orleans. Fat chance. If she isn't convicted of murder, she gets a job in Biden's white house. The next mayor, meanwhile, does the same old shite. It's not like Don Jr or Ron D's cousin are taking over NOLA.

Worse, she deliberately withheld payment for the purpose of creating the terrible circumstances that gave her an excuse to award the contract to her political supporter at a much higher cost to the city. Metro's bankruptcy was just a side effect.

I can only speak for myself but the new collection service is much worse. My trash used to be picked up twice a week early on Tuesday & Friday mornings.
Now it's down to once a week. It's supposed to be on Tuesday mornings still but sometimes they don't show up until Thursday. So everyone has to leave their trash out on the street for days because we don't know when they might show up and can't take the chance of missing it.
All at no cost savings to me

Wasn't the biggest Lee Zurik fan before, but now I definitely am. He's very well connected and liked in the city, and the man gives zero fricks, so he's doing the job of bullying Destroya when most people want to do the same but don't have the balls to do so. He's one of the few in the city stepping to the plate.
