Couldn't it also be that many of the people most likely to die if they got COVID already died in previous waves?

I mean that's unlikely.

Only 100,000 people died in the UK.

I saw a study published last year that showed 300,000 - 400,000 were vulnerable in the UK.

So 100,000 dying didn't 'kill' them all as many people didn't even get infected.

There are degrees of vulnerability. Not all of those 300-400K have the same risk factors.

How do you know they didn't get infected? "Vulnerable people" can still recover and some may not even show symptoms.

Because those are hard accurate numbers from the same people that are currently fumbling the handling of this 18 months into it

No, that LESS vaccinated are getting sick with COVID. Vaccines aren't 100% effective - vaccines have a 95% efficacy rate

That's not what you said

Further, the 95% is the relative risk reduction which doesn't really mean much when the absolute risk reduction is approaching zero.

I'm not rooting for anything.

Maybe you are and that's why you are projecting.

That's the whole point of covid vaccination - to reduce the number of deaths/severe effects of COVID. As long as they're not clogging up ICUs, it doesn't really matter.

No, people were told they wouldn’t get it and couldn’t spread it. That is not true.

If anything, this supports the argument that in no way should vaccines be mandated. It has little effect on others if I don’t get it and the only potential person I may harm by not getting it is myself.

Let people make up their own minds and take their own risks.

What a moron

I HATED Trump's response to COVID - some of the most boneheaded moves in American History and I still would vote for him 100 out of 100 times over Hillary and Pedo Joe

Two things can be true at once

Absolutely zero credit given to the medical community for the ability to treat the virus over the last year huh?

And not to mention the number of cases may have something to do with the higher availability of tests. Further, more people are working in an office setting than a year ago, more kids going to school - the stakes are higher so more people getting tested.

Main point here is using cases for any sort of analysis is inherently faulty.

Isn't that what vaccination is about? Reducing the number of deaths.

Are the results that significant though? I don’t disagree with you I just don’t know that about the underlying data or approach to analysis.

Me too. Trump trusted too many of the idiots he should have gotten rid of like Fauci and it bit him in the arse.

Sure. So why have they implemented new restrictions?

It’s not amazing at preventing infections. It looks to be pretty good at preventing deaths.

Alternatively, a strain that kills people rapidly will die off quickly. The key for a virus is to keep people alive, virulent, and highly symptomatic.

Because the vulnerable people aren't getting vaccinated.

If it were only healthy young people not getting vaccinated, I don't think anybody would have a huge problem with them being unvaccinated.

The problem is that the people in ICUs are overwhelmingly unvaccinated. They should have got the vaccine because they're not healthy, young people.

Also, there might be a risk of new vaccine-resistant variants that spread through unvaccinated people but the risk of that is overblown.
