I agree that this is an issue that needs to be talked about more. What we did to those Japanese-American families was terrible
So easy to say now.
We weren’t exactly fighting Iraq where you can sit here unaffected and critique with your legs crossed. That war was kind of a big deal, there was some actual uncertainty.
It was all out war with Japan and there were Japanese people here. They weren’t 3rd and 4th generation.

Honest question: if we’re celebrating 250 years of American history, why isn’t this part of the 250th anniversary celebration? Seems like it definitely happened and was very American.
You're literally suggesting that we celebrate the dark chapters in American history. Celebrate them.
Do you even realize how retarded that is? Serious question.
Maybe you can suggest celebrating the wonderful treatment of my Appalachian Irish ancestors too, yeah?

Read about Chi Chi Jima and American POWs there - they were eaten alive.
Read about Bataan
This was their mindset read about this guy Hiroo Onoda
They were one of the most warlike peoples on the planet until August of 1945
The people in that were interred were well compensated(al be it years later).....
What we did native peoples was far far worse, it's a common thread throughout human history.

Who cares? The past isn’t the present… stop crying and move forward … the whining is comical

Congratulations to the therapist who will be evaluating your children in a few years.
Okay….that made me laugh.
Say….why weren’t there any German-American internment camps? Weren’t the Nazis just as threatening? I suspect racism had something to do with it but who knows.

Wonder how you would react if we treated Japanese Americans the way the Japanese treated literally anyone not Japanese.
He will get to the Nanking Massacre one day.

Well considering the Nazis didn’t literally attack us one morning I am not sure wtf you are talking about. We were pretty isolated. We even signed an agreement in the late 1700s stating we wouldn’t interfere with European affairs.
Japan outright attacked us. They got what they deserved.

The Japanese detective on Barney Miller wasn't bothered, why are you?

Whew! Well, that's good to know. I was always under the impression that the Nazi's were awful people and a threat to the western world.....especially for those 3.5 million Jews murdered in camps.
No need to be suspicious of the Germans amongst us. But those second-generation Japanese folks from Seattle.....better keep an eye on them.

Since it is has not been used often enough in this manner, constitutional violations have become a normal part of the landscape.

The Japanese living in Hawaii can blame themselves for what happened. Japanese-Americans hid a Japanese Soldier from American Athorities. This is why they were put in camps. We were at war.

It was a great idea. You have to stereotype at certain times.

It IS part of the 250 years, else you wouldn't have been able to take your kids to a site dedicated to the memory of the event.

Thanks for sharing. I had never heard about this. Is it too late for a third bomb? JK sorta
My oldest daughter is a travel nurse on Guam, and says there are annual pilgrimages by Japanese visitors who APOLOGIZE to the people of Guam for treatment during WWeleven.
It amazing how their mindset has dramatically changed since their population learned how their military leaders acted.
