I think the politically smart thing is for the GOP to tell the Dems, sure, call all the witnesses you want, and get all the new evidence you want.

They won't find anything damaging, and they will have to drag this foolishness out all spring looking for it.

It will pull Dem candidates off the campaign trail. Every day, reports will come out how they are still looking for evidence. It will underscore that the house impeached him with no evidence at all. This will make the Dems look even stupider than they already do.

The Dems are quite willing to hang themselves, why won't the GOP let them do it?

It also takes Republican Senators off the campaign trail in swing states

But they will twist and splice and reframe and reword until things appear bad and that's all they need to run with, appearance. DNC101.

It's not up to the jury, the Senate, to provide witnesses. The DA, the House, was responsible for that. They didn't produce. Tough shite for them.

All of the comparisons to a "real" trial really don't make sense, because this is a political thing, not a legal thing.

But to play along, you can call witness at a trial, that you didn't call at a grand jury hearing.

Which causes them to further hang themselves.

I tend to agree but after hearing the constitutional arguments against it I’m not so sure. Vague BS like “abuse of power” and “obstruction of Congress” shouldn’t even be entertained as impeachable offenses.

Dude, if the House wanted these witnesses they could have called them. They didn't want to follow the process.

End this sham as soon as possible.

They kind of didn’t do it in the Clinton trial. Even most of the Republican controlled Senate didn’t want Monica to describe all the dick sucking and cigar penetration. So kind of Precedent

if they would have been called in the house, would they then be re-called in the senate? or the testimony entered into the senate hearings?

No, no, no, and no. This needs to end with a motion to dismiss. Period, end of story.

I'm fine with that too... but every day, this spectacle causes the Dems to lose support.

I mean, they lost the gaptooth wanna-be governor from Georgia. If you lost her, what more do you have left?

The smart thing is call it what it is, a progfilth partisan sham, and dismiss it. Let them cry and lie . They’re going to do that anyway.

To be convicted of a crime, an actual statute/law has to be violated. The House has presented no such statute/law. As soon as the "presentation of evidence" portion of this is over, that will be the basis upon which "the impeachment" will be summarily dismissed.

Couldn't the Repubs simply choose to dismiss all charges Friday after the Dem's final 8 hours of evidence?

This "trial" is not about getting or convicting Trump. It is about the Senate. They want the Senate to get after Trump again if and when he wins and the Dems have quietly been recruiting quite aggressively. They hope to peel off 3-4 .

Georgia will be ground zero there are two Senate seats up.

Arizona is likely lost McSally against the astronaut Mark Kelly

Texas is interesting because the Democrat organizing there in the last 5 years has been profound. They have flipped the judiciary there . They will go hard at Cornyn.

Maine is up for grabs as well

Colorado is lost

Republicans will take back Alabama

Republicans have been sucking on recruiting and organizing . Congress is where Republicans are getting outorganized. Message alone is not going to het in done going forward.....the messenger is just as important
