At a local watering hole. I saw a friend of mine going hard on these people. He looked a little silly so I sat in to help him. I convinced this guy to have a stand up conversation with me. He obliged. The summbitch kept going on about limited resources in Louisiana (o&g). He didn’t care about how many jobs were provided. Honestly though. Not a bad convo.

The the worst part. This old lady who knew him that kept cutting me off. “HES A SCIENTIST. LISTEN TO HIM”

baby. The men are talking. Shut the frick up

ETA: in ole boy defense. He went on and on about how we are a growth driven economy. Which I agreed with. I believe in free market. Etc

He kept on hitting on growth economy on a global economic level. Which apparently cannot be sustained. Also the Midwest is going to run out of water in less than 5 years!?!?!

Louisiana has an abundance of water,
so it looks to me that one of its resources just got a lot more valuable.

Tada! New biz opportunity for La.

Or can he not see that with all his leftist pessimism?

He’s right on some accounts, I don’t think the growth model of capitalism works all that well with national banks or insurance. JMHO.

Capitalism is the worst economic system there is,

except for all of the others.

In what sense? Running out? Just the Haynesville Shale has an estimated reserve of 195 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. The biggest problem we face is finding markets for the huge glut of energy reserves we are still finding.

We havent even scratched the surface of deepwater reserves and there is even more in plays that are uneconomic due to the current energy glut like the TMS and Austin Chalk they are still looking at.

Gee, assuming this were to actually happen, it’s too bad water’s not some fluid commodity that can easily be piped or trucked in.

So not point was made?

In order to have a productive conversation you should have immediately stopped him here as asked him to characterize the "resources". Progs love to throw out ambiguous terms. When the terms are specified you'd be amazed at how much we all actually agree.

But MUH Resourses.

You can tell when a prog is not serious, uneducated, emotional or has ulterior motives, they won't get specific like you have just on a cursory level.

30 and 40 years ago you would have that conversation with him about peak oil, and his fear tactic would have been just as wrong then as now.

He’s not wrong here. O&g are finite.

This is an absurd claim based on nothing. Makes the left look looney.

We’ve had a frick ton of rain in the Midwest the last few years. No prohibition of lawn watering. Reservoirs over full. Moron.
