It was 5 Republicans that voted against the closure. Paul, Lee, Graham, Flake and McConnell. Now Paul and Lee voted against it because they believe we should just pass a budget like the constitution says the congress should do. Graham and Flake voted against it because they should have a "D" next to their name (or at least and "I") instead of a "R". What I don't get is why did McConnell vote against it? Has he given his reason why he voted against it?

I renounce your renouncement.

I have no good reason. I just like to stand up to the Man.

In addition to the Democratic wall, a handful of Republican senators voted against the bill. Sens. Lindsey Graham and Mike Lee voted against due to concerns about the adequacy of another CR in funding the government. The bill would have only funded the government through February 16. Sen. Rand Paul also voted against the bill because of its addition to the national debt. Jeff Flake also voted no.

The 4 no votes.

There were 5 no votes. Here is a link to the breakdown (warning, it's a NYT link): LINK

ETA: FYI, this is the only commentary in the NYT article that I linked (the rest is the vote breakdown):

quote:

Senate Democrats blocked a spending bill on Friday night that would have prevented a government shutdown. The procedural motion to advance the bill needed 60 votes to pass.

I'm actually shocked that the NYT actually blamed the Democrats for this.

McConnell’s no is purely procedural.

Trump can pay the military if he wants to. But you know that which is why I'm embarrassed for you posting such lies and hyperbole that it's one of the more ridiculous lies I've seen come from the right.

So he has to vote "no" in order to get the votes started? That is goofy if true. Why should the party in the majority have to waste a vote in order to end the debate of the minority part? You would think a past majority party would've found a way to change that procedure by now.

Oh I know. It's really interesting how the GOP has convinced all these poor whites in the South to vote against their own interests. There are several factors which contribute to this. It's just perplexing whey they continue to be pawns of the wealthy.

What are their own interests? Explain. You seem to know better.

Him voting no (last) is procedural to allow the vote to be brought up again.

The GOP needs to push the 4 Republicans who voted no out of the senate when they come up for re-election.

Yeah. This issue seems to pop up every time the minority party successfully blocks something, so it makes it seem that Harry Reid voted GOP and McConnel voted D in a lot of instances since people aren’t aware of the procedural quirk that basically requires them to do that.
