I notice you didn't say you were ready to get back in the classroom.

My wife is a teacher. She’s ready to roll. Now she may very well drown your child in hand sanitizer, but she wants to work.

I seem to remember representatives voting to impeach Trump. That doesnt mean you support their statements
Same thing applies to teachers

she would never last working at remote locations and working 14 hours a day 7 days a week like i have done at times. 98 hours a week. people are soft and do not know what hard work and long hours are.

I must have missed the hue and cry from rank and file teachers demanding the opportunity to go be the heroes they say they are.

FWIW, go research my post history and you will find that I am a conservative that has wanted to open up society (including schools!) FULLY...from the get go.
I would put the ratio, in my particular district, as being 2/3 conservative in ideology. That 1/3 is a mouthy group though.
My take:
Resign
Retire
or
Get your arse back to work!

Conservative Karen is still super fricking drama queen over the virus. Scared shitless. And, since most teachers are still women.........
Well. You get my point. Sure. I know some teachers want to be back in school. But it is readily apparent they are in the minority.

Many teachers in the south feel the same.
Teacher unions in Texas are feckless.
The teacher haters on this board are using handfuls of idiots in the nation to label an entire profession.
The whole deal has been kinda wild to watch.

Probably.
I am only speaking in terms of my locale.
FWIW - I don’t disagree with your sentiment. Their constant complaining is exhausting.

There's nothing wrong with that, but it's unfair to call it a part time job. It's certainly a full time job during those 9 months.

People seem to pretend to know a lot about the teaching profession yet fail to realize there are no powerful teachers unions in LA or TX.

Not sure where you’re getting your info, pal. The libtard Californians who moved to TX have started taking over the education system and bitching like it’s Berkeley. Useful as screen doors on a submarine. Act like they’ll explode if they come within 10’ of a student.
Maybe for the better, I suppose. It’s not like they want to teach your kids to read... just how to think like a SJW looney.

They may not be powerful here but that doesn’t mean they won’t try to follow the lead of other states, using them as an example.
You know this isn’t about COVID when they start making demands totally unrelated to education or COVID. Tonight on the news they shared one of their excuses for not wanting online school - it may be embarrassing for students to see their (the teachers) homes online. So clean your fricking house or hang up a sheet. We know not all teachers are bad but you have a lot of teachers who are determined to sit home and be paid for nothing. Trump is right. The money should follow the student and let the parents find a school willing to properly educate their children.
Teachers can go back to work (as long as their schools take precautions) or resign. No one is feeling sorry for them, least of all the essential workers (and everyone else) who have busted their asses during the pandemic. Many of those essential workers need their kids to be in school so they can work.
I’m a former teacher, btw.

I taught my kid how to do multiplication tables the old fashioned way and he failed a test because he didn’t use “the right method”. Frick the education system. Most of us can do much better for our little ones.

My wife is a teacher and wants to go back with students in the room. She is told right now that she will return and then teach the kids remotely from her room while not engaging with anyone in the building.
Secondarily A lot of people do not understand how teachers get paid. They are working a contract. I will speak for Alabama. That contract is 189 days.
So it is very similar to an any other term contract where you are paid by the frame of the contract. So in essence they paid for exactly what they work. So it is not technically right to say they have so many off days because they were not paid or contracted to work those days.
They spread that payment out over the whole year. It is really no difference if your boss says that you get paid $1000/wk and then only work 5 days that week. Did he factor in the two off days?

There are are a lot of groups claiming to represent teachers in Louisiana. The loudest groups with the most unreasonable views are also the ones that have the least members. I know that in Louisiana there are 3 different teacher organizations, the LEA, the LFT both Unions, and there is A+PEL a professional association. They exist because they all provide affordable liability insurance which protects teachers from resentful ((step)+-parent(s), legions of incompetent administrators, and we have all been there --petulant adolescents.
So,
the LEA was the early big one and they became very powerful; but through LEA's association with NEA it joined the AFL-CIO. So Louisiana teachers formed A+PEL in response they wanted nothing to do with the NEA/AFL/CLO to offer teachers professional representation by long term teachers and principals, but most importantly A+PEL provide affordable liability insurance. That broke the back of the LEA and they have been fighting ever since. The LFT, well I can't say this for sure but the general feeling is they are the closest thing to socialist even more so than the NEA. The LFT is aggressive, both the unions LEA and LFT include bus drivers, janitors, and cafeteria, in their membership and would expect teachers to strike for increased bus driver salaries. A+PEL doesn't even support political candidates, much less organizing strikes. A+PEL is very popular in the state and I believe it would be more so, as most newer younger teachers are generally unaware of the professions history, and join one based on a pamphlet or colleges recommendations only to change years latter when told they are funding the ALF-CIO. So, don't let the headlines fool you, in the end, some might hesitate but once the schools open the (underpaid) teachers will be there.

A friend of mine who teaches autistic kids at a public school who are low functioning has complained and rightfully so about the lack of support and resources she has which makes her job stressful.

I retired 5 years ago as a principal, but I still coach part time now at a Catholic school. I'm going back into the classroom to substitute this year to help out.
