Standing in a line in Dallas and commented to the next guy that the weather is probably more pleasant in Minneapolis.

Not that this has anything to do with Geography, but a couple of years ago I was at the WW2 museum and a college aged scholar expressed his surprise to learn we dropped an atomic weapon against the Japanese. I looked at him with disgust and walked to the next exhibit.

Every parent in America should give their kids a puzzle map when they are young and “play” with them regularly.

Geography is on of those humanities courses that people love to hate on.

Then, people are big critics if you don’t know anything about geography.

It’s think it’s good that colleges require electives to mold people into well-rounded individuals, not just churn out specialists who can write algorithms in their sleep.

I don't blame the teachers for shite like that. We were all taught where the states are. It's up to people individually to retain information they're taught in school. If a person walks away from school and never bothers to look at a map again, they won't retain that info.

Geographic illiteracy is something that I'll never understand. I've always been interested in knowing exactly where I am on the globe. Some people can't point to you which direction west is if you tell them where north is. It's weird.

I've yet to see anyone say this.

I don't think Geography classes are the ones those with common sense think are an "issue".

It is fun, however, to watch the left fall all over themselves to continue to dumb down the populace. This whole 2+2=5 thing and the "math is racist" talk we are seeing is glorious.

Can't wait until Math, like Geography, is replaced with gender studies requirements because "isms".

I got Colorado and Wyoming fricked up with each other, a couple of weeks ago on this forum. It was a survey map about something. It embarrassed the hell out of me, because I go to both states pretty often.

That’s not too bad.

Now if you had claimed that you were building a border wall in Colorado to restrict illegal immigration, that would be embarrassing!

no there are some good teachers

But their unions have cemented in mediocrity and poor performance, despite soaring dollars per pupil ratios.

When a system is broken one of the best ways to find solutions is competition. But once again, the unions shut down charter schools, vouchers, and school choice.

Early 20s. Very polite and sounded quite literate ... on non-substantive matters anyway.

My mom nicknamed one of my uncle's girlfriends "Vermont" because one time they took roadtrip vacation through New England and she asked what state Vermont was in.

Also, I met a girl from Wales once. I said or asked her something that indicated I knew a few things about her country. She was impressed and replied that a lot of Americans she met didn't even where Wales was located. Right on cue, the dude sitting next to her complimented her on speaking fluent English and complained that some foreigners move here and never bother to learn the language.
