For multiple reasons, it's obvious you have no idea what you are talking about.

really? Are you basing this off of some deep understanding of reenlistment levels or are you just hoping for an outcome because you disagree with the current situation?

Carrier and sub crews already have lower retention rates than other jobs in the Navy because of their deployment lengths and relatively more demanding nature/unpredicatability. So it was simply an observation that an 11 month tour may result in more people moving on instead of signing back up. A tour that long, when coupled with pre-and post deployment duties, is like 15-18 months away from families and such (if family is not in Norfolk).
Whether I support the operations in Iran has nothing to do with it.

The Navy rotates ships not crews.....
a core objective of the "world's greatest Navy" is keeping international shipping lanes open.
another is conducting prompt and sustained combat operations at sea..... key word sustained....

Something most are not aware of.
Navy personnel serving in a combat zone can exclude 100% of their pay from federal income tax. This includes all forms of pay for enlisted members and warrant officers, while commissioned officers have a limit based on the highest enlisted pay plus any hostile fire or imminent danger pay.
Its a big deal money wise and you only need to be in zone 1 day of each month to qualify.
Another related note. If your specialty is short they will sometimes offer incentives to reenlist like $16k or $30k or another amount. It all depends on specialty. For those people they will likely reenlist early while in combat zone to get that lump sum payment tax free. They also get hazardous duty pay and imminent danger pay. Its a huge windfall when all added up. I got it twice while deployed.
Lots of sailors onboard Ford carrier group came home with a huge wad of extra money.

I think the Navy understands this.

You think deployments to East Asia Pacific only last 6 months?
I'll tell my son that his commander is lying to him and he'll be home much sooner than he was told.

Operational deployments? Usually yes unless extended.
Now, your son may be forward deployed on one of the ships based in Japan. But that’s not apples to apples when talking about timing. He’s homeported there for a couple years (or more)—not on continuous deployment at sea.

Sorry about the snark in the previous post.
You are correct, I was not thinking of continuous deployment.
But I can say that deployments have been lengthened recently due to delays in construction of the new carrier class ships. His ship was supposed to already be decommissioned but they are having to get it ready for an additional deployment.

Think of the Iranians living in caves and bunkers along the coast of the Strait of Hormuz. At least our guys are getting hot showers, clean sheets, and first rate food every day.
