This seems like a weird thing to be concerned about. This is their job.
We’ve been doing a shitty job of managing deployments. Large vessels are supposed to be out for around sixth months, but we’ve been overstretching our crews for years now. The average carrier deployment is now 11 months . Thats a disgrace. Those people work 12+ hours a day, 7 days a week, with very few port calls now. Thats too goddam much to expect. Its tough enough to be away from families for sixth months. You try going in circles in the North Arabian Sea for six months in 115 degree temps and then say “Its their job” again. A tip from someone that used to do this… the air handlers are nearly useless below decks when you're out that long in the PG area. The ship turns into an oven below decks. It got so hot some nights it was difficult to even sleep. When people are that miserable for that long, tempers get short.

I have a feeling you’d feel a lot differently if Obama or Biden were doing this.

I really don’t see how you’re making that connection. What would that have to do with the statement that a soldier’s job is ultimately to help conduct military service and operations.

I believe they roll with 6 month deployments.
Did you post when I was deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan for a year?
I deployed during the surge too, 15 months. Where is that thread?

Hopefully they can start a rotation of some sort.
I think the Navy understands this.
Stops at Benidorm, Mallorca, Trieste, Greece and Sig...... make up for it... The equipment needs a rest more than the Sailors... Tomcats struggled with extended deployments...

Gotcha. Ike is an old girl too. I hope his next trip is either shoreside or in the bridge of a newer ship—whichever he’d prefer.

He'll be on a new ship when he gets to make his next career decision. Sounds like he could go either way at this point.

Ours didn’t. We had a better sortie completion rate than the fig squadrons (we called F-18’s Fighter attack guys, or figs for short). Of course we had the F-14D.
