I hope the Navy rotates their ships/crews that are on station near Iran.

This seems like it will be a long time before there is any resolution with Trump giving Iran extension after extension and in the end nothing will het resolved. Iran is going to stall if we keep giving them more time. Some of those men and women are way over their original tour length and morale could start to be a factor. Hopefully they can start a rotation of some sort.

This seems like a weird thing to be concerned about. This is their job.

Actually being 7000 some miles away from the USAs shores ain't really their job lol
So their actual job is just sitting in port in Virginia Beach?
Do tell!

They already rotated the Ford group home, they were out for like 11 months which is a long arse time to be on a ship.
Can't imagine reenlistments will be high amongst those crews.

Rotations are normal and necessary for a bunch of reasons. Extended deployments result in extended yard time which means less capability overall. Ford stayed out almost a year and came home a rust bucket full of broken shite--she'll be in the dock for six months or more.

What? God forbid they do their actual job they signed up to do. GTFOH!

Good, I wasn’t aware they sent the Ford home. People can downvote all they want but the fact is some of those ships and crews were near the end of their original deployment when they got sent to Iran. Those crews that have been there longest deserve a rotation. They still have families and obligations at home.

WTF is a panican? Making up words? I’m a 3x Trump voter but its really hard to support this course of action with people who we already know you can’t negotiate with. Not all Trump supporters just blindly follow like you.

9-11 months is typical for a carrier.

Morale is always a factor on deployments.

Its been six months or so for years now, after the major fighting in Afghanistan ended.
Ford's deployment was the longest since Vietnam.

I believe it was just the Ford group ships that were that far along so that is mostly remedied. Hell, Ford's initial deployment was over and extended whenever she was called to the Gulf for the Maduro raid---three months before Iran started.
Some of the destroyers have been out a while, but they can much more easily repair and resupply at bases in the Med. I believe Souda Bay is the only place around that can handle the CVN's.

You are correct that the Navy and the Marine Corps plan for 6 month carrier battle group and amphibious ready group deployments. When real-world contingency operations occur, many are extended to 7-9 months. 11 Months is a LONG deployment (on a boat, at sea) for anyone.
Having spent 6 months on a boat as a Marine, it is not fun. You want to get off the boat for real world ops, exercises, and of course libo. I can't imagine the two MEUs worth of Marines out there are excited, but if you keep them busy boarding ships among other duties they'll stay sharp & focused.

It’s not like they have been gone very long

I just checked the USNI Fleet Tracker. We have four MEU's out playing around. One off each coast, the Tripoli in the Arabian Sea, and then Boxer's crew is currently wearing out the women and bartenders in Singapore.
Seems like alot of simultaneous activity.
