I heard a crazy stat yesterday

I was listening to a business talk show yesterday and they had a liberal on there basically making fun of Trump for wanting to bring back manufacturing to America saying that it’s a stupid idea because nobody in America will want those jobs
The host said well can you explain this white collar stat to me where a new study was just released stating that 30% of white collar workers would change their careers in a heartbeat to work in manufacturing instead of their current office job? The liberal sounded dumbfounded with the stat and the host said “yea, believe it or not, 30% of white collar workers would rather use their hands to work all day instead of sitting at a desk all day on their computer”
I just thought that this was very interesting.
If Trump can pull off a miracle and bring tons of good paying manufacturing jobs back to America, the liberal doom and gloom talking point about how nobody wants those jobs is a fake and bullshite narrative. That’s a huge number of people who would actually prefer these types of jobs instead of sitting at a desk all day dealing with people and customers.

There are hundreds of thousands of Constuction jobs available where you work with your hands.
Why arent they filling?

Because losers would rather drive busses

Because they pay like shite right now because the pay rate is for slave labor immigrants instead of actual good paying jobs for American citizens.
Eventually this will correct itself once Trump gets out all of the illegals.

Pays better than unskilled assembly line work.

There is a massive difference between SAYING you want to do that in a survey and ACTUALLY doing that in real life.

Lol, there will be tons of white collar (gray collar) jobs with new factories too. Support staff is needed for factories too. Production Planners, Human Resources, Accounting, Purchasing, Data management, Office Managers, Logistics, Quality Control, Engineering.......

the manufacturing jobs of today are not the manufacturing jobs of yesterday. Instead of sowing garments and shoes, punching out metal pieces they are operating and maintaining machines.

Unskilled assembly line work start around 20hr. More with shift differential.
Not too bad for college dropouts.
Ive gotten a ot worse. And those checks don't bounce.
I've worked for some mom&pop places where the checks did bounce back in the day.
So as always, your perception is based upon your experiences...
You make your own luck.

For some reason people seem to think all factory jobs are doing mind numbing work all day. Most of that work is automated.

Those folks saying nobody wants the manufacturing jobs don't live in the real world.
Many of those manufacturing jobs pay good wages and consider the construction jobs created to build these plants/facilities. Those construction jobs pay very good with alot of hours. A top craftsmen on a large project lasting 18 months- 2 years will knock down 150k-200k a year, plus $100-$150/day per diem for every day worked, on top of his wages.

I read about a study years ago that explained a good way to make assembly line work better for the worker.
If you assemble the top of a widget all day it gets really old and boring. So, after 6 months they take you to another room and show you how to assemble the middle of the widget. Six months later you go to the bottom of the widget line. They keep rotating crews to keep things new.

A job that allows someone to be totally off when they aren't physically at work sounds very appealing.

Working in a manufacturing facility and working construction are very different.

I question any such statistic. While I would like to get away from the desk some days, I would absolutely not prefer to be hunched over a factory sewing machine assembling shirts or bench working assembling small appliances.

The subject was manufacturing jobs, not construction.
In manufacturing, at least you're in a facility with a work post or at least inside and moving between positions when necessary. The construction business is a different animal, with the job site constantly changing and being at the mercy of whatever elements nature hands you. Many more people are willing to work on an assembly line or boxing dock than are willing to run a tamper, frame walls or float concrete.

I'd much rather work construction than work an assembly line. Any day. You develop skills in construction, you put a nut on a bolt or drop sheet metal into a template every 20 seconds in assembly line work.
Skills > no skills.
