Wait. Is this a victory lap over 3% inflation?

Yes, and they think its "falling"
Its an embarrassment to actual adults.

People have explained this to you 100 times. Acting stupid is not an argument, and it's a very transparent tactic.

Stocks don't magically increase in price because of inflation. Please do some research. Thanks.
Nor did I say they did. I said…

The stock market HAS to go up with inflation in order for companies to retain their value.
Which is true. Please learn reading comprehension.

I guess the inflation from the tariffs is still lagging
No, it's climbing.
3.0% in September, up from 2.9% in August. Highest it's been since January...there's lots of articles on it if you Google it.
In April (before the tariffs rolled out) it was at 2.3%.
It's definitely going the wrong way, month by month, at an average clip of a 10th of a percentage point per month since April.
And that's the problem. Not where it is today. The fact that it's going the wrong way and steadily rising.
Only an idiot (and yes, I know that there is no shortage of those on this board) would have expected anything else at this point. Like a man who jumps off the Empire State building and is bragging the whole way down that he's flying, not falling, and he can prove it because nothing has happened.

Inflation is still rising since Trump announced his ridiculous tariffs, and it was falling before he announced his ridiculous tariffs.
Trump's first tariffs were imposed on February 1, YoY inflation continued to fall until May. In other words, it was not only falling before he announced tariffs, it fell for months after tariffs were implemented. That's what most people seem to be using to look at this, I don't think it's granular enough.
The best way to gauge what's really going on is to start by looking at average month-over-month price changes on domestically produced goods (excepting imported resources) versus prices on imported ones.
PPI (MoM)
2025
Jan - 0.7
Feb - 0.1
Mar - -0.2
Apr - -0.3
May - 0.4(P)
Jun - 0.1(P)
Jul - 0.7(P)
Aug - -0.1(P)
Average: .0175
Import prices (MoM)
2025
Jan - 0.3
Feb - 0.2
Mar - -0.4
Apr - 0.1
May - -0.5(R)
Jun - -0.2(R)
Jul - 0.2(R)
Aug - 0.3(R)
Average: 0.0
Now let's look at the annual change:
PPI YoY
2025
Jan - 3.8
Feb - 3.4
Mar - 3.2
Apr - 2.4
May - 2.8(P)
Jun - 2.4(P)
Jul - 3.1(P)
Aug - 2.6(P)
Average: 2.96
Import prices YoY
2025
Jan - 1.7
Feb - 1.7
Mar - 0.8
Apr - 0.0
May - -0.4(R)
Jun - -0.6(R)
Jul - -0.6(R)
Aug - 0.0
Average: .3375
So the data tells us that import price increases have not only remained moderate since Trump's tariffs, but domestic prices are the ones rising the most.

I admit I forgot about the tariffs on India in August
Brazil - 50%
Canada - 35%
Mexico - 35%
European Union - 25% - 40% (Varies by product; some exemptions apply.)
Japan 25%
South Korea 25%
Other Countries 10-40% (Varies widely based on trade agreements.)

From my business standpoint, materials have fallen or remained flat despite tariffs
Lumber is down nearly 7%
Sheetrock is flat
Paint flat
Finish like tiles flat
Copper is up, though.
Compared to Biden's years the building material industry is finally stabilizing even with pressure from tariffs.
I like this. As soon as I can find a waterfront lot on Lake Lewisville we will sell & build. Lakehouse went on the market a few weeks ago.
