Not really, it’s played out during human history.
Just happened with covid.
Trying to do the same thing with biology and men and women.
People with all the markers of being intelligent thinking it’s healthy for kids to believe in Santa and want to take hormone blockers.

What's so crazy to me is that there are thousands of ENRONS all over the world doing the exact same shite.

Enron was a huge supporter of Kyoto Protocol.

Enron was fully supportive of carbon cap and trade because they were going to make a fortune in trading those markets.
It had nothing to do with environmentalism.

Enron was bad, but Arthur Anderson was the real disgusting actor in all of this. I assume the companies are immoral money hungry assholes, but the auditors are supposed to be the ones protecting the public.
It also lead to my industry getting bitch slapped to kingdom come.

Wish they would do a new comprehensive one on HealthSouth. Talk about a circus.

bit of an oversimplification
You aren't kidding.
I'm a CPA who has worked in healthcare for some for profit companies with similar stuff to HealthSouth and Enron. It doesn't feel the same on the inside as it does looking from the outside.
However, when all the Enron shite went down (and the company I worked for as well) I realized for the first time in my 20 year career that I didn't just do a job and what someone told me to do. I was paid to have an opinion and that not raising my voice sometimes could potentially send me to jail.
I had multiple friends and neighbors working for Enron and other companies going thru similar stuff. Things I knew about and heard about didn't seem wrong at the time because they were such common practice in various industries.
The laws at the time had a LOT of gray lines. Insider calls, whispers, etc. If you know much about that stuff it's easy to see how it all happened.

Speaking as an Enron alum, like you, we both know that the documentaries, the media reports and even the actions of the DOJ were over the top when compared to reality.
I'm not saying that there weren't serious nor criminal activity that needed to be addressed. I'm saying there was quite a bit of sensationalism in the reporting that unfairly tainted a lot of decent people there. It wasn't contained to just the bad actors.

I haven't seen it - did they mention the Forbes journalist Toni Mack, and the piece she wrote on Enron in 1993 titled Hidden Risks? She was my aunt. I hope she got some credit for signaling the alarm on Enron's mark-to-market switch. I think she was the first to do so.

And you of all people don’t see any irony at all in that statement?

Another thing that is mind blowing to me - I have read that the WorldCom scandal made ENRON look like peanuts. I am going to watch the WorldCom Doc tonight - It's on Peacock

I am no CPA but it seems to me that Enron and HealthSouth violated the first and most basic principle of accounting in that the numbers and reporting should accurately reflect the economic condition of the company. Isn't that the first principle you learn in Financial Accounting 101?
Sadly they did not

What about the government and the Fed? They are worse than Enron and get away with it everyday.

She's actually brilliant too, I've been following her work for a while. Very sharp woman to go with the looks.
