religion, war/military, etc

hell even my thread about science becoming anti-science had lots of shite form all sides coming out

What happens is that the liberal hivemind violently downvotes anyone or anything that is contrary to the far left wing stance on an issue.

This makes some degree of sense. After all liberals are mostly betas, and down voting is probably the most beta thing you can do online. I mean what's the rational? "Hey I'll show him (presses down vote) ha ha!"

does it count if i downvote my own post in an attempt to egg on even more downvotes from the unwashed masses? Or would that kind of move actually be alpha?

Agreed, i see it slung from each side.
To me, it feels like both sides see those issues as dog whistles and rush to defend their side immediately. Both sides come in assuming the other side will be vitriolic, hyperbolic, wrong, and trolling and thinks that by being all of those things first, they somehow win. The other side sees that and rather than abandon the thread (as many do) they take offense to that ignorance and engage in the same tactics. All intelligent discourse is thrown out the window because everyone wants to be right and everyone wants to win. However, this isn't some game where you can hit the buzzer-beater, send your team home with the trophy, and f$&k the prom queen, this is the internet.

When threads devolve into such flame wars, neither side throwing bombs wins, everyone loses because they were denied a chance to educate themselves, to challenge their minds and their opinions with differing perspectives. That is what conversation was invented to do, to enable the sharing of viewpoints.

Passive aggressive voting on your own posts, I like it.

r/politics is liberal counterbalance to the TD Polibard but damn this board still kicks the shite out of that board when it comes to variance. For exampke, the variance in the right wing on this board goes from anti-governmnent anarchists to authoritian theocrats.

The groupthink and hivemind is enabled by things like Karma and downvotes/upvotes affecting where threads and posts go. When you have that happening, there's only one inevitable outcome.

TD is awesome because it's a fair environment when it hasno karma and downvotes/upvotes doesn't affect threads and posts. That ensures neutrality and a fair shake on every single board on this site.

There is so much variance that two "righties" (I'm referring to me and you, Sentrius) can't even agree on what is considered right wing.

From what I have discovered reddit REALLY hates Christians. Holy Crap. I came to the defense of another Christian by pointing out the context of a verse an atheist tried to use against the Christian, and damn. Got a lot of private messages of pure hate and anger. It was scary, actually, that people get that upset over someone they don't even know over the internet.

My guess is because the internet and reddit is all they have, since in public places they are outcasts, so they don't like Christians and conservatives on their "turf" and ruining it for them.

This board isn't even that right wing. It has a heavy libertarian tinge, which shares some classical liberal values.

As far as radicalism is concerned, this board is pretty mild in both directions .. others I visit with mixed patrons have absolutely bat-shite crazy die-hard for"their side" folks that would put Decatur and CA to shame.

It may be an echo chamber, but as far as echo chambers go, its pretty clean here.

If I recall correctly, Ron Paul overwhelmingly won the board vote during primary season. Hardly representative of a conservative echo chamber (though it exists to some degree, of course).

Also in a comment section I saw a Christian being attacked for being against gay marriage, and the liberal atheist hivemind attacked him. One poster was attacking him for eating shellfish because apparently that against mosaic in the old testament and therefore a sin.
Meanwhile carp, a fish which literally eats shite, is kosher.

oh man

GMB was an austrailian (?) super conservative who was a fricking dick. he hated spidey and his family something fierce. he also had insane opinions like sociology and psychology were difficult areas of study and physics was easy and unworthy of study. he and i used to go at it late at night

quote:

Dan Kern

clown shoes

the first conversation i ever had with dankern33 was on the movie board where he was trying to explain to me how the 2 matrix sequels were significant movies with deep and complex themes. apply that to liberalism, and you have dan

plus he wrote a letter to the editor of the revelle or advocate calling tigerdroppings racist

a lot of his shite has been scrubbed, but this link has quotes from the online letter to the editor

he was also a folk musician wannabe living in LA with this as his headshot

2 quotes form that thread perfectly describe dankern

Antonio Moss:
quote:

What he lacked in reasoning and logistical skills, he made up for in racial accusations.

Lsupimp:
quote:

Rarely is a consensus reached on this board. Thanks Dan for having that curious and statistically improbable blend of immaturity, befuddlement, narcissism, angst, resentment, ignorance and bitch-arse punkism that made it possible to have this Kumbaya at your expense.

It was that rare moment where left and right met in the middle to sadistically beat Dan Kern about the face and neck.
