There is some counter-signalling, but as Trump started to take it more seriously the Democratic public did too. Not saying that they were taking their cues from him, but they weren't dissuaded by his increasing concern.

Link is above. It would've been interesting to poll that question as to why. I suspect people take their cues for concern from their trusted authorities and the coalitions have different trusted authorities that have each taken very different attitudes to this pandemic and communicated very differently about it.

It more the democrats politicizing it. Everyone else understands we “flattened the curve” so let’s move on. I think people were rightfully initially skeptical, but people bought in to “flatten the curve”.

The democrats want more government power, more redistribution of wealth, and to attack Trump.

Flattening the curve is still operative though, as "raise the line" is too (increasing system capacity). If more people move around, R0 goes back up and case growth grows in exponential fashion until we've got herd immunity. If we can keep R0 down through smart testing & isolating and get more effective treatments then we can feel more comfortable that more social contact will work out ok.

didn't want to say WAPO huh?

They are fricking openly skewing their coverage of both Biden's finger fricking and the screw job on Flynn and you expect us to believe this is on the level?

This goes right to my point about trusted authorities skewing the coalitions perceptions' of the situation.

Pretty easy to explain. The devil himself couldn't lose a presidential election as an incumbent, with the economy roaring, people making more money than they ever have, having more disposable income, and taking better/longer vacations. Just doesn't happen. So this virus was politicized almost from the beginning, not only by the socialist democrats trying to make hay over how Trump handled the situation, but it was quickly recognized that this could be the very device they needed to crash what was a booming economy.

Which is why you are seeing the blue areas doing everything they can to make the problem worse, make the problem seem even worse than that, (worse than it ever was going to be) and dragging their feet in the effort to normalize, and return to the roaring economy we had when it started.

Surely you realize that the socialist democrats don't give a flying shite about how much harm they are causing the American people by doing so. It's not like their own propaganda arm, the media, is going to hold them to account for it. And if your lifetime has ever taught you anything about socialist democrats, it should be the knowledge that for them, the ends ALWAYS justifies the means, because they never suffer consequences.

These policies are not political for republicans. I have seen republicans on both side of the issue, though most want to open.

The dems would rather lose their business than have trump re-elected and continue to make money. So for them, it is totally political.

You're right that they're controversial and contested among Republicans and not much so among Democrats. I think his point, though, is that the "open now" voices are almost all coming from one side.

Like TempleOwl says, the Republican party is divided over this and doesn't really know what it wants right now.

Simple.

The filth have figured out that a long lock down improves their chances politically.

Just look at TigerDoc. That fricker has no shame whatsoever about his level of dishonesty.

It seems to be a feature of the politicization of the threat itself, likely due to coverage in the fragmented media-spheres. Look at the state-by-state polling for answers of "yes" to "are you extremely concerned by the threat of the coronavirus?" back to late February before we knew we had any community-acquired cases.

Congratulations. You discovered what we already knew.

Liberals are a bunch of pathetic humans perpetually in a state of fear/anger/despair.

We on the right already knew this.

Alright, Rob. So assume all the Democrats are cynically pseudo-concerned about this virus.

Why are half the Republicans?

In other words, trusted liberal authorities perpetually sell fear...…...and liberals are some buying mother frickers.

Again. This isn't actually news to anyone...………...but you.
