I trust him. To do exactly what he represented himself as: the benefactor and care taker of the Russian Federation. And he made no bones about that. Same as he understands Donald Trump is interested in the best interests of the U.S. of A.

What he thinks doesn’t mean he is correct. He might be right over 90% of the time, but today he was wrong. No matter how much Trump/America wants peace and a good dialogue with Russia Putin is a Soviet that hates America.

I feel like you have to bring a person/country, no matter how bad the relationship, to the table and decipher for yourself if there is a possibility of creating peace. 3 of the countries Trump has tried to negotiate with wouldn't even be touched by other administrations. Yes they may not work but you have to try at some point.
