Well, live within your means... How old are the kids?

1. Do they pay $100 month for cable/tv?

2. Do the kids have cell phones?

3. Do the kids have vehicles? see above about kids age...

4. Do they eat out every meal? even fast food adds up..

5. Do the kids get everything they want or ask for? Learn to say no...

6. Do they go to movies or entertainment type events?

7. Do they drink or smoke?

You can change you lifestyle and make it on 80k...My wife and I had to rob Peter to pay Paul 20 years ago, but we cut out shite to get by...Now we are fine, per se...

just my 2 cents...

Familiar stories sound just like my step-daughter and husband. Combined income is about $120k, $300k house which is falling apart due to neglect, 2 new cars, 4 kids that have to all have the latest crap, 2 nice vacations a year. I know they are maxed out on credit cards and up to their eyeballs in debt. The bill is coming due for them sooner than later and it won’t be pretty.

What plant is this guy working in if he’s only making maybe 40-50k?

People need to stop having kids they can’t afford. Would fix almost all our problems

Yep, the answer is clear. We need more government intervention and handouts.

For the State of LA? If so, they have damn near the best health insurance coverage and premiums out there. If she does not work in the state system, she needs to start ASAP.

He works a great job in Sterlington at the plant

Does he have truck nuts hanging from his bumper? Can he work overtime to make extra money at the plant?

Monroe has to have one of the cheapest costs of living in America. I grew up in Swartz and still have all of my family there. My sister and her family live in the Bend, so I know the area very well.

They have three kids.

Tell them not to make any more. If they frick for fun, there are ways to do it where kids are not created.

But the home isn't big at all: 3 bedroom 2 bath

That is small for two kids, much less 3. See previous answers to solve their issues.

Combined income is about 80,000 a year I suppose.

A teacher in the State school system is making at least 40K per year with excellent benefits. The BIL is not doing something right at the plant if he is only pulling in another 40.

Three kids on $80k is tough. Need to live small as heck. Why three kids with so litttle income?

It depends on where you live, but yeah. A decision to have kids should always factor in your ability to financially support the child. If it doesn't, you are irresponsible.

80k is pretty solidly middle class for a family unless you live in an expensive area.

This country has and will never favor those who are cogs in the big machine.

This country favors those who create jobs and/or businesses.

America was founded by entrepreneurs and rewards it very very nicely with tax breaks.

There is virtually no inflation, especially for food. Someone is fooling you. I shop for food here and in Texas and the foods that I buy at the grocery stores are price stable.

I think you are making this part up.

80k for 3 kids is nothing. The fact his "great" job has no insurance is not ideal either.

If you are young with young kids, licensed daycare is a KILLER.. It's more expensive per year than college tuition a year to a state university. Old days family members could watch your kids, now a days not so much.

You are grumbling about high health insurance rates and costs?? And then blaming Trump?? Ummm.. what did the GOP say what was going to happen to costs?? And remember the Dems screaming “raciss” when it was brought up?

What had been happening to costs for decades?

There were less women working back then for sure but I didn't know a single kid that went to daycare growing up. It's certainly an expense that a lot of families didn't have 30-40 years ago.

I have friends and family members that are teachers in EBR. Ascension, Livingston and St. Tammany Parishes and all have great insurance. Much better than mine and I have pretty good BCBS through my employer (plant). I think you're misinformed or lying.
